When I was in second grade. I had the chicken pox, and I was miserable. I was so itchy and hot, all I wanted to do is scratch my bright red blisters. My grandma hated to see me suffer. She had a great Idea, and that was to a read to me. The first book we read was Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat. I can remember letting my mind wander through the pages wishing the cat would come and play with me. Soon I realized that when she was reading the books to me, I was not Itching from my chicken pox. After seven long days my chicken pox went away, but that didn't stop the reading. Every time I went to visit my Grandma, she would read to me. This gave us a very special bond and to this day we are very close.

The walk was a treasured walk because, we would walk past the caboose park. The caboose park had an actual caboose, it was bright yellow with red trim. When the weather was nice we would stand on the caboose. The library was a fun and exciting place for us to go. The library had bright colors and comfy places to sit and read. We would check out lots and lots of books to read.
When my son was five years old, he asked the librarian why there was not more non fiction books in the children's section. The librarian just chuckled when he asked her that. My son liked facts and how stuff worked. By the time he was old enough to read we switched roles and he began to read to me. I would watch him read through the book and his eyes still would light up, he was so proud that he could read. I was proud of him too. He still reads books to this day, non fiction of course
Reading was a very powerful way to bond my family. I will cherish my memories of my grandma reading to me for the rest of my life. I hope that my son will feel the same way about me reading to him.
