Short Story: The Island

Prologue “Could you please tell me where you are from again?” “The Island of Udatnosst, your highness,” King Eli Pound repeated, growing agitated at the King of Roch’s inability to neither recognize nor pronounce the name of his kingdom. “Unclench your jaw.” “Cannot you read, sir? I would be willing to spell it. It has a silent D and a guttural O. You have to say it with gruff! Use that large throat of yours and try it with me. Yew at N oooo st.” “Do not insult me, Eli.” “I, as well, am a king, too, and I would like you to address as such – king of the only country that does not war within or outside of itself. That should be enough to make you know who I am and where I came from!” “I am dumbfounded that nobody has wished to war with …show more content…
“What kind of man are you?” After half a minute without a response, Amorette maneuvered her body back to face her lord, and he remained plastered to the ground, writhing in his own shame, his own flaws. “You are not what I thought,” The king let out a light sigh, and after he sat in silence for a few seconds. “But, I’ll help you out. I love you, my king. You have been the only one there for me since I was a child. My mother was never there, and my father, well, stepfather, is a brute. It will be ok from now on. I will make sure you are ok.” As she spoke kindly to Eli, she shuffled across the floor, quiet enough to not attract his attention. As soon as he saw her fingers creeping close to his leg, and then the translucent hairs of her arm, he lifted his head. Her elbow, which was smooth, unlike his, pressed against his upper thigh and she crawled into his arms, separating his hands from his hair and pulling him into an embrace. She was petite. Her hair was soft and thin, but there was plenty of it upon her head. Her breath was warm and smelled like the forest, and her lips pressed against his.
King Rengei Dewight woke to the absence of his stepdaughter, and with amnesia towards the conversation he held with king Eli, he searched for several months with no leads. Eventually, he announced her death to the kingdom. He would never know that his step-daughter eloped with a man who only came to know her through a letter pleading for funds for his kingdom – a letter that was accidentally delivered to the wrong

As I peered down the bluff, I saw the magnificent black-and-white beasts breach the water of the Salish Sea. The L-pod resident orcas were gliding past Henry Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. This sight reminded me why I was in the San Juans in the first place: to appreciate nature and do my part to protect it. I finally got to experience these natural beauties that I had heard oh-so-much about from the locals. The sea breeze flowed onto my face, and I appreciated the wonder of it all.…

    Constancy In Cupid

Cupid is emblematic of the constancy of the sonneteer’s love as induced by the female object. As the sonnets progress, he becomes the object of her attention and her criticism, before she finally moves away from both Venus (Wroth, Crown Sonnet 9) wherein she rejects him for her “sunne”, and Cupid (Sonnet 103) (who seems to become a sort of surrogate for her love interest, as well as the representative of her own desire) to a higher form of love that transcends both passion and longing . Shift seems to reject female sexuality, and the lesbian exploration that comes with it, in favor of marital (or at least heterosexual) constancy, and the higher love that comes with it. This is further reflected in the corresponding plot of Urania, wherein…
