Narrative Essay About Volleyball Club

Back to school season had knocked on every door of Tirana to deliver a message: September has arrived and so has school. Although I was enthusiastic to reunite with my classmates, the idea of innumerable assignments and tests ready to conquer my spare time was inevitable. This dreadful forecast sent a cold shiver down my spine, paralyzing me for a couple of minutes, struck by the realization that I would not be able to participate in any sports. Later that day, I turned on the TV to notice the news flash: “The mayor of Tirana, Mr. Veliaj, has inaugurated the newest volleyball club, Tirana Volleyball Club, which is perfect for interested children in this sport.” Despite the fact that school was around the corner, I decided to throw my insecurities …show more content…
The colossal field was surrounded by equipment and a net, which split the field in half like the equator. Ms. Jenny, the coach, briefly introduced herself in a calming voice and charming smile of pearly white teeth. Her resemblance to a model which had stepped out of a photo shoot was undeniable. Everyone else around me, mostly teens, possessed an athletic posture and seemed like qualified players. During the last ten minutes of practice, I hardly tried to keep up several passes with Emily, a fellow girl from Saranda. I struggled to keep the volleyball in the air, and the teacher was not satisfied with my ability: “Try to pass the ball with your fingertips, not with your whole palm— alright?” Ms. Jenny explained. “In addition, if you can push the ball a little further, please do.” “Thank you for the advice, coach!” I quietly murmured. Attending the volleyball club the first day was the beginning of an endless practice awaiting in the near …show more content…
One morning, when the field shined gracefully from the delicate sunshine penetrating through a broken window, Ms. Jenny waved some fliers in the air: “Our team has been accepted in the volleyball championship of Albania, 2016, where we will compete against different teams until two final competitors are left. To earn the golden cup, we must work ten times more than before— understood?” “Yes ma’am!” my team yelled as everyone held their hand by their forehead imitating the military gesture. Ms. Jenny demonstrated unique exercises almost every day; such as neck and shoulder stretches, dynamic chest, hip circles, and toe touches lead by seven to eight laps around the field. Gallons of sweat dripped down my back and forehead, but I never took a break. Ms. Jenny was not the same sweet teacher, but had morphed to a screeching dragon from the eager of training us perfectly. I had never imagined being in a field with professionals and being able to play at same standards as them. The intense training had built up my confidence to believe that I was ready to participate in the ‘volleyball championship of

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

This book was definitely an interesting read and provided me with valuable information to how the youth sports world works. The authors main theme of this book was to give an overview of the youth sports industry by providing real life situations. Some of theses real life situations included families from all across the United States. Now, Hyman’s process of putting these family testimonies required a lot of hard work. During this process, Hyman will interview the family about what they have done for their child 's sports lives while also providing facts on that particular sport.…

In the essay “Children Need to Play, not Compete”, Jessica Statsky writes about the importance of children being able to have fun playing a sport without the pressure of winning or losing (152-157). Playing sports can be a huge part of a child’s life, but parents and coaches need to remember that sports are here to keep a child busy and active. Children use sports to make friends not compete with each other to see who is better. When sport oriented parents and over controlling coaches try to have kids play at a professional level this causes children to lose interest (152, par. 1). With this being said the parents and coaches need to realize how they are taking the game to an unsafe and unsportsmanlike level.…

Eventually, a month before my first semester at Montgomery College started, the soccer team began with full-force, demanding prospective players to go through a harsh two session per day, seven days a week pre-season. Under the coaching of the demanding yet respectable Pedro Braz, the team and I were embedded with the idea that we had to become discipline and fit in order to raise up to the challenge of keeping the victorious legacy that he had built since his arrival two years ago. Personally, I had never gone through such an intense period of physical work in my entire life, in some instances almost to the point of complete exhaustion. Two weeks, 24 three-hour-sessions later, and our first friendly match in pre-season arrived. I can hardly remember any moments of that game, but I can remember what I felt standing on the pitch waiting to play the game as if I had that moment tattooed on my arm; I felt euphoric at the thought of have completed a pre-season that only very few people could have…

I began high school playing volleyball, and as the season came to an end, I was uncertain of my next step. Many friends encouraged me to do winter track, but I was very hesitant. One day after school, I timidly approached the coach to introduce myself and get a feel for the team. To my surprise he was the upperclassmen psychology teacher; he read right through me. He told me I would be a good addition to the team, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go out for the team.…

What I was looking forward to doing my senior year, was leading my team as a senior to the best we could be. I was working harder than I ever had all winter long leading up to this. I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…

I again emphasized that we were specifically looking at improving our own skills. We set goals for Volleyball, using the SMART acronym, allowing students to share where they are at now with a particular skill and where they would like to end up. We will reflect on how that experience went at the end. During activities, students could self identify with whether they felt ‘Spicy’, ‘Medium’, or ‘Mild’. We together celebrated successes for all the various groups and many students moved themselves amongst the categorization depending on the day or…

By the time I sprinted onto the field for the start of the Jefferson Cup soccer final I had mentally prepared myself for the fierce showdown ahead. I had been playing soccer for most of my short life, giving up all other sports to concentrate on being a top player. In fact my whole family was committed to the game, so I guess you could say that I eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. I sure hoped that all my hard work would be translated into a big win that day. As I readied myself for the refs whistle to announce the start of the game, the hair on my neck stood straight up, and the adrenaline rushed through my body, filling every vein and artery.…
