On a cloudy afternoon, in a crowded Starbucks, Elizabeth Conner walks in and ordered a peppermint mocha with coconut milk, her favorite drink. It also happens to be my favorite drink as well. After ordering our drinks we finally sat down at a table. Elizabeth is one of my smartest friends, not just book smart but she has been all around the world and learned so many things from those experiences. I took a minute to get all my notes out and my phone ready to record and Elizabeth says, "Are you nervous?" I wasn't because she is my closest friend. "You don’t look nervous, but this is really weird." She laughed and then we began.

"Well I learned Vietnam is really dirty and it kind of smells bad. It's really hot, it's 100% humidity like it's really bad. You walk outside and it's like hard for you to breathe." Elizabeth laughed as she told me, "I learned that Vietnam, like Asian countries probably aren't for me because I'm more of a like not-so-hot and like that. I don't like to sweat!" Elizabeth was able to find out places that she enjoys and places that she might not want to travel to based off her experiences in those other countries. She had told me about how traveling to different places makes her more willing to try different things. This is one case where traveling to other places can really bring you out of your shell and help you be more open-minded about new …show more content…

"I like doing or being involved in FFA. It's fun. We do a lot of fun fundraisers and we practice for food science and then we get to go to state. States really fun. And then we compete, and I just like it." FFA is something that Elizabeth loves to be involved in, and she explained how she learned a lot from her experience at state. "State convention is at WSU and it is so pretty there. My food science team and I got to go explore the campus after we competed, and we got to see so many cool things. We went into the library, and the football fields! We also stayed in dorms and that was an awesome

What does it truly mean to be intellectual? Some may say that being intellectual means being book smart, while others say that it is being street smart. In an entry of “Hidden Intellectualism” by Gerald Graff, Graff believes that one can actually become intellectual if they start learning about topics they actually enjoy and then slowly start easing into challenging topics. While many argue that intellectualism is limited to the studies of school, non-academic activities such as traveling and truly experiencing these events can teach one about the history of a place, the culture, and how to solve problems. When asked why people decide travel they just say that they travel for vacation, but what they do not realize is that traveling is a learning experience.…

Our encounter ended at this point, and I gave her a comforting reply, I said, “Monica, I know your grandparents are watching over you as your guardian angels, and all the fears you have I’m sure they will help you overcome them, and you are making them very proud, because you are trying to superior yourself in life.” Monica said “thank you,” and she gave me a hug. This was a great experience to do this encounter with Monica, regardless if I know her, and work with her part time. Even then, there are many things I didn't know about her and I have always wondered about, but this encounter gave me the opportunity to take our conversation to a deeper level.…
