“No problem Hun. I’ll see the two of you later. I think Shannon wants to invite you both to dinner soon, but as for now I need to work. There was a pretty bad accident on one of the roads and we’re still doin’ work on it.” “Okay, just give me a call if you hear anything,” and with that I hung up the phone. He must just be on a drive around town. He’s done it before. I thought to myself with a heavy sigh. The cold air flooded down my throat noticeably making the muscles contract. A seemingly uncomfortable feeling was oddly comforting, bringing my mind from the fog of thought to reality. I’ll wait another hour. I compromised. I was not entirely sure what I was going to do after that hour but I was going to wait it. While I waited I went to the kitchen table, taking a seat in one of the golden brown seats. As I sat I took in décor. In the tall clear windows lining the two long walls sat light blue and white flowers. Sitting at the front of the church was an array of candles, all centered around the heart of the wedding. Showcased in the center was an unlit candle. The room itself was grand and ancient, with walls of rough hewn stone, polished granite floors, and a ceiling as high as ten men. There were eight long tables, the shortest on a raised dais along the far wall, and seven more set orthogonal to the first and extending to the entry. Sheaves of wheat and sprays of spring blooms adorned the walls, and cornucopias spilled fruits, nuts and candies onto each table. There were dancers, at least a dozen of them, draped loosely in silks of gold and rich green, ribbons of fabric that swayed as they swayed, dipped as they dipped, and fluttered about them as they spun. Along walls and in corners, on tables and among revelers, they danced in time to a rhythmic tune—singly and in pairs and trios, all moving with an agile grace, seducing guests with limber acrobatics and inviting smiles.…

There’s no shortage of artwork that still manages to deliver a message in a visually pleasing manner despite being left or right centric with its composition. What sets “At the Wedding” apart is a reliance on geometric shapes for the doorway, windows, steps, and handrails. These shapes bring certain expectations to the layout of the work, and when there is a visible void, such as the right steps of the watercolor, it tends to stand out. These geometric shapes also being a certain familiarity to the canvas. They frame the work in a similar way to a page.…

“I knew a man who once tried to kill himself,” I said. I swirled the straw in my water, trying to dunk the ice cubes under the surface. “He decided to do it just before sunset, but the sunset was so beautiful he wanted to see it again the next day.” The waitress cleared the dishes in front of me. She was no older than 15 with short blonde hair that brushed her shoulders.…

My apologies; my schedule is incredibly busy (one of the pitfalls of having two majors) so by the time I checked my messages and realized that you were the one who called the workday was over. I will be volunteering at Harris Elementary School today from 2:30 - 4:40, so if you call me before (or after) then I should be able to answer. If I cannot get a hold of you today, I have classes from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Thursdays, but I could leave my calculus class early and call you around 11:15 . If Thursday does not work either, I only have one class on Friday and could call you any time after 11:00. I would like to reiterate that I am sorry for missing your calls and look forward to talking to you…

Sitting down surrounded by my cousins, enjoying the cool Kansas breeze, laughing, joking, and relaxing. Mom’s outside with Aunt Grace talking about God knows what while the kids are inside the living room. I remember talking to my cousin Ronald about what we should do outside to either ride our bikes, walk around the neighborhood, play tag, just do something active since we were young with enthusiasm and optimism about what else is out there in life for children to do in their spare time. Something just egged me on to go check Mom outside, as I got up from the couch , I noticed two men, standing outside, dressed in camouflage with such a serious expressions. All of a sudden Mom begins to worry, but at the time I was so confused as to why…
