July 9th, 2017. This was the beginning of my biggest trip around the U.S., the Midwest specifically. I headed to Oxford, OH, for a hockey camp on the Miami University campus. The drive there was probably the most boring drive of all time. Cornfield, after cornfield, after cornfield, then a soybean field, then more corn fields. Conversation was sparse, only talking in an actual conversation once we stopped for lunch and met up with some friends. Once we got there, it was time to say goodbye to technology for the week. I definitely feel like I came from that camp better at hockey and with new friends. Then, the real trip began.
We headed to Greenfield Village, a collection of homes and factories, ranging from the 1600’s …show more content…
Get up.” I guess that was my brother, obviously not in a good mood. My uncle was blowing up his “boat”. I sulked out, making sure I actually took a step and didn’t trip over myself, and subsequently falling on the rock-like ground. After we got to the middle of the lake, we played king of the hill on the boat for a little bit, and then started jumping off the edge of the dock at the house. The following day was not going to be very good. The lake would have to be chemically treated, so we couldn’t go in. We looked for things to do, and saw that the Gladwin County Fair was happening right when we were there! The all you can ride passes were only $6, while the parents decided to watch the go-kart/truck demolition derby. WE went on a few rides, and looked around at the animals in the barns. We saw a few cow auctions, but eventually we got bored, and got sucked into that truck racing. And was it interesting. I never knew seeing people I had never seen before race around a muddy track for nothing other than bragging rights would captivate my attention like that, but one thing leads to another, and here I …show more content…
Maybe there will be some fun sprinkled in, but it would be mostly work. I was doing my service work for confirmation, which is similar to a bar mitzvah, except for it is catholic, and there is, sadly, no big party involved after. We had to do a “service project” to get confirmed, and mine was to help immigrants in South Texas. I boarded the plane at National and was headed to Houston to catch a connecting flight. However, there was a mechanical problem, with the plane’s engine. This went on for a while, even hours. Eventually, we were able to take off, but had to closely monitor our connecting flight to see if we would make it to our final destination. The plane had wifi, so we were able to see when our plane took off, which was unfortunately, when we were in the air. We tried to get a seat on the last flight out, but couldn’t get two open seats. Well, we were spending the night in Houston. We got situated in a hotel for the night, which surprisingly, wasn’t that bad. There was a restaurant across the street, and having not eaten in almost 6 hours, we took any choice we had. It was a breakfast place, so we had french toast. We went back to the hotel room and fell asleep faster than the snap of a
