It was March 15th, the day of the community raffle. Everyone in the community has been waiting for this day to come since the grand prize was announced to be 1 million dollars. Unfortunately, every family can qualify for the raffle only once. If you disobey this rule your entire family will be disqualified from the raffle.
“Wake up! It’s the day of the raffle,” yelled Jay’s mom, “make sure to make yourself look presentable for today.”
“Coming!” shouted Jay.
“Why do we even have to do this? It’s pointless, there’s no chance of us winning,” pouted Jake, Jay’s little brother.
“Hey, I don’t like your attitude young man,” replied Jay’s dad.
“Breakfast is ready!” said Mom.
“Alright, you three eat first, I’m going to get some farm work done before we head out,” said Dad.

Even though the Smith family weren’t very welcomed, they walked over to the booth to turn in their slips.
“Woah, excuse me, sir, what do you think you are doing?” said the man in the booth.
“We are here to turn in our slips for the raffle,” replied Dad.
The man in the booth looked at the Smiths for a good minute before speaking again. He looked shocked and disgusted.
“You wish!” the man chuckled, “This raffle is only for rich people, not for the poor like you.”
The Smiths were shocked about the raffle and how people were treating them. Jay wanted time to refresh herself from the raffle so she stepped away from the family and started walking to the restroom. Jay was not too happy about who she saw on the way.
“Oh look! It’s the girl who’s way too poor to enter into the raffle,” teased Katie.
“Oh look! It’s a spoiled girl with no heart,” Jay said with anger in her eyes.
