Reflective Essay: The Art Of Tattoos

Sitting anxiously, alone, in the car trying to come up with the bravery to go in the house and walk up the few stairs that serve as a divider between him and his parents. He knew his parents were going to be mad and disappointed but he wanted to get it, he wanted to get a tattoo. Despite his parents being against it he still got it and now he was to face the punishment. A few weeks back Diego had been glued to his phone and computer searching and searching. Looking for inspirations, meanings, tattoo parlors, tattoo artist, everything one can possibly think of that can be related to tattoos he was searching for. “Gaby, our parents have worked so hard to move here, being from an immigrant family is not easy and the struggles that we go through. So many things could have gone wrong and we could have easily gotten lost but because of them we haven been able to stay in a good path and continue to fight” she kept quiet “besides my situation, my chest I have to live with this and is not easy” he exclaimed. A tear rolled down her eye and she remembered, her brother had been born with pectus excavatum, that is a rare condition where the chest and ribs grow abnormally and cave in. They have tried to have surgery but the doctors told them that since is not life threatening at the moment they would consider the surgery as cosmetic surgery and the price was unbelievable. Thankfully, Diego has been healthy and is just the physical he has to deal with but it has been hard for him. The following Monday she wasn 't sure if to call her mom and tell her what was happening but she knew it would make it worst so she let it be. A random thought creeped into her head that night that maybe he was doing it to impress his girlfriend or to impress his friends who also had tattoos. So she texted him to ask him that but within minutes he called her sounding upset over the questioning. “You know me better than that Gaby, I can’t believe you 're asking me that. You know I don 't do stuff to follow other people and definitely not doing it for my girlfriend.” he said. Quietly, she said okay and they said their briefs goodnights. The following day, mid afternoon she gets a picture form him. It was the outline on his forearm of the tattoo. She was freaking out, telling is not too late to walk out and avoid all the trouble he was about to get into. Yet, the next thing she received from him was a video of the tattoo artist already tattooing on him. It was too late now to change anything, now she was hoping that everything goes well and that by some miracle of God their parents take it
