Narrative Essay About Talent Show

Decent Essays
During the summertime, I would go to the summer camp and baton twirl with my sister. The first time I participated in a talent show, was one of my bravest and proudest moments. I remember feeling anxious, yet terrified for my act to be brought to the stage. My stomach was twisting and curling as I approached to the front of my group. And when the music started playing, I knew I was ready to perform.
The summer of 2015 was one I could never forget. By that time, I had been baton twirling for four years already at the summer camp, yet every year the sign-up sheets for the talent show appeared, I would never sign up. I loved learning new twirling techniques, especially because my sister was the baton twirling teacher. My sister would spend

The first routine was pretty easy, since it was mostly intended for the younger kids to try. The second song was harder, incorporating more advanced moves, yet still fairly simple. The next song was the counselor's song, in which the two teachers would perform a challenging dance together, while the students would be preparing for the next songs. The last song would be the most challenging. It was extremely quick, and you are twirling to the point where your fingers looked like they were meant to be twirled in all directions. Through all the hardships, the team practiced and practiced until we got it perfect, all helping each other …show more content…
During the class periods, we would practice all of the songs nonstop, in the hot enclosed room, where everyone would practice until we would drown in our own sweat. The day of the show appeared right in front of me, startling me with how fast the day arrived. The kids started to settle into the seats in front of us, where they would patiently wait for the acts to begin. One by one, the performers would begin their act, ending with a round of applause and a quick trip back to their seats. When the announcer called our name, I was reluctant to stand in front of the crowd, although I knew I was ready. The music started playing and my heart started beating at 100 miles per hour. By the time I knew it, the first song faded into the second, and I realized that performing was not so bad, after all. The second song flowed smoothly, everyone was gracefully dancing to the beat and twirling their batons with a quick motion. When the two teachers went up to dance, that’s when I felt confident in myself. I danced to two other songs without a problem, so I could definitely perform the last one with ease. Finally, the last song fades in, and everyone lines up in a formation. There were batons flying simultaneously in the air, everyone catching and tossing the batons to the ceiling. When the final note played, the only sound I heard was my heavy breathing, followed by a roar of applause. At that time all I could do was

If anyone ever asked me what my favorite memory from high school was, it would most likely be related to twirling a flag in my school’s flagline. Even though the band members constantly denied us from actually being in the band, I always thought we made a great addition to the marching band and added a little extra spunk to it! I was on flagline throughout all my four years in high school. In fact, I was a natural at twirling and I was the only freshman who made the line my first year! I was a leader to my fellow twirlers and then became the captain during my senior year.…

At that age, I wasn’t expected to be good it was more just for the “cute factor”. Right before we went on I was so nervous, and I remember when I first walked out in front of all those people I suddenly froze and was just memorized by all the lights shining directly into my eyes. After we danced I watched the older kids dance and I thought they were so cool because they all did their dance insync. From then on I wanted to be exactly like them…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

All the dancers that participated in it all had their own personal stories that they could relate to which made the dance so special. Everyone was truly happy to be performing and telling the story. Another thing that really worked well with the dance was all the different parts throughout the dance along with the formations. Never did I once get bored and drift off into space while that dance was on stage. The choreography was so dynamic and unique that you never knew what to watch because everything that was going on was so beautiful.…

The large speakers that surround the filled room begin to vibrate as the loud unknown voice begins to announce my name. I now know that it is my time to shine. While standing behind the long, red curtains I begin to do what comes natural; lifting my head as if I am looking above and beyond the ceiling that lies above me with a smile projecting from my face, standing tall with strong energy from my toes to the tips of my fingers and pushing my shoulders back to respectfully greet my judges. The adrenaline pounds in my chest, but confidence over powers and I am nothing but ready to entertain my audience. The loud roars of encouraging chanting and cheering rings in my ears as I walk towards the spotlight that gives off a warm radiant heat where I hit my beginning position.…

“When your music begins, you will be in competition mode.” I took a deep breath, it was showtime. I was introduced to the world of competitive dance in August of 2011 and ever since, dance has been the outlet for all of my emotions. I started off as a shy little girl who hid in the corner, barely extending her limbs as I attempted to mock those in front of me. As time elapsed, I persevered through challenging ten hour practices and the taunting of my peers.…

Reminiscing back on the beginning of the season, I could see how terrified I had been. Although I was just in the ensemble, the pressure was still on my shoulders to perform to my best ability. Learning the dances and poses for A Thousand Cranes, I had followed the seniors exactly, right down to the way they curled their fingers or pointed their toes. I was petrified that if I did not do something precisely, I would be called out in front of the whole…

My mood was jubilant that day because I was glad I came to that performance instead of staying home. I would have felt home sick with all that final review so it was pleasant and peaceful having entertainment for such a low cost but great performance. The movements I identified were a lot of the terms I went over in dance class from degage to grand battement, the list goes all over. The name of the performance should be called “The Art of Adventure” and it should be divided into subgenres which focuses on the main theme adventure. Adventure can be dim or bright but they always seem to have a long lasting well produced ending.…
