Personal Narrative Essay: The Joy Of Skiing

Improved Essays
An impulsive act for affection caused me a foreign, agonizing pain. The feeling of suffering and abandonment was heartbreaking. I was alone. I was eight when I first understood the value of pushing myself, yet taking calculated risks.
I attempted skiing with a group of experts when I was only a novice. Suddenly, the ground beneath me passed faster and faster. Before I knew it, the earth fell from my skis thrusting me into a perpetual free fall. As the wintry secretion covered my tired, snow-battered face, I felt foolish and insignificant as my friends descended the hill. I never enjoyed skiing and risked my life to make friends, friends who did not accept the non-skier me. This early experience became the catalyst for what would become my driving

After a long day in seventh grade, my friends and I ventured to a picnic lawn concert. However, the shrimp sauce was missing to complete our perfect shrimp cocktail. As my friends accepted defeat, I forged a mission to ask a neighboring group for some sauce. With the plan in motion, I inspired my teammates to support one another towards this sweet goal. My unrelenting ambition took charge to lead the troops. Overwhelmed with victory and honor, we finally brought some sauce back to the blanket. Yes, asking others for some cocktail sauce is a weird question, but the worst that could happen is receiving a “no”. The reward? A great memory, shrimp sauce, and …show more content…
Applying my lesson learned from carelessly skiing down the mountain, I made a thoughtful decision to leave my comfort zone and undertake AP U.S. history. I then asked other students if they would be interested in a study group, with my confidence built up from the time I asked out my crush. Recalling my leadership position commanding the sauce expedition, I created a rotating study system with jobs for each member. Although my confidence invades most aspects of my life, I always remember to observe others’ situations, looking out for lessons to be learned. Using all the tools at my disposal, I excelled in the class and made great friends at the same

Who am I? I have been called many things; a bumbling buffoon, a sleepy sailor, or even a hairy hippy. I am so much more than these mere titles. I am a sponge to the world that deposits its ideas into me. I am a filter that chooses which ideas I want to follow.…

I once thought I couldn’t believe in myself! I felt as if I were nothing but a sheet of glass that was completely useless. When there were gloomy days, I felt like broken glass that was scattered all over the ground and I wouldn’t be fixable. So I thought if I joined a sport, I would then, have no choice but to believe that I can do more and accomplish more, and be better than whom I was! When I was little I loved to run…

After being at school for what seemed like forever, I put on my boots and headed to the ski lift as I looked at the snow glow in the cold February sun. As I waited in line, John was grabbing ice balls the size of my hand, then throwing them at my back. Without anything to throw back him, I felt as helpless as an amputee in a war-zone. Even though Jack was next to me checking my ticket, he did not seem to care that someone was throwing ice balls at me. He didn’t even care to look at my lift ticket which explains how I got on the lift.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

When I am not in school, and not with my friends, I am definitely doing something lacrosse oriented. Even before I began playing lacrosse, I was told by my bestfriend that lacrosse was referred to as “the creator’s game” by his coach. The first time I set foot on a lacrosse field was in 4th grade, and it is just as hard to take that foot off the field now, as it was the first day. My burning passion for the game only grows stronger the more I play.…

The edges of my skis slice across the freshly groomed trails while my poles force thrust back propelling my body over and past a steep hill. I continuously repeat this motion hundreds of times, so many that it feels woven into my fabric of a person. The numb fingers, frozen eyelashes and aching muscles from cross-country skiing over the years become routine for how I spend my winters. However the lessons learned from this sport extend past the practices.…

After having so many great experiences throughout my academic career, there is still one moment that remains more special than others. It's been five years since I took AP European History with Mr. Hanna, but it still stands out as one of the best classes I have ever taken. Given that five years later I find myself as a Government major it may sound a bit obvious why I would like such a class. Yet, the best part wasn't what he taught, but how he taught it. History is notorious for being a "downer", and although I've always thought otherwise, it's fair to say that Mr. Hanna made the entire class and I love it even more.…

Throughout high school, I have learned numerous lessons, ranging from the significance of honoring my heritage to the importance caring for others. Yet, these lessons are not ideas that can be simply taught, instead, through work and experience, I have come to discover how remarkable they truly are. One of the most pivotal catalysts in this age of personal growth and discovery was my experience with community service. Volunteering with the Lewiston Auburn Greek Festival exposed me to the unique energy and vitality that lives within culture and heritage.…

Before I was born, my father was a ski bum. When my dad graduated college, he moved out west to Colorado to live the ski bum dream: eat, sleep, ski, repeat. Once, he decided he wore the ski bum identity out, he moved back to Connecticut. There he met my mom and then came along me. Until I was about seven, my dad took his break from skiing so that he could take care of me along with my mom.…
