Personal Narrative: My First School Year

It was towards the end of summer, all of the stores began to fill with school supplies and the aroma of brand new pencils and crayons filled your nose as you walked In. The end of summer gives me mixed emotions, I'm excited to begin school shopping but I'm also sad to start the school year. Kids my age always get the same questions this time of year, “are you ready to start the school year” or “have you began to think about what college you'd like to go to”. But this year when these questions began to flutter in I wasn't even close to the point of thinking about school and grades, I was ready to go on vacation. My mom announced to my sister Haley and I at the end of last school year that my grandma and grandpa have rented out a house In Fair Haven, we have a very large family. My grandma has six kids. I have two uncles, three aunts then there's my mom. So as you can Imagine the house would have to be pretty big, one of my aunts has three little girls and then there's me and haley. I can remember the excitement when I heard the news. I didn't do much this summer other than play softball. The days leading up to the trip had me tossing and turning when it came time for bed and having me feel as …show more content…
I put my hand on the clutch and all I can remember is hearing my grandpa saying “Janelle don't touch that” (of course I did anyway) then all you hear is “VROOOOM” it was as if the boat was purring happy sounds. My grandpa got out of his seat trying to reach the end of the boat where I was and he told me to stop so I did. The boat came to a complete stop and he went flying over board, this was probably the funniest and scariest moment that I have ever experienced. He was perfectly fine in fact he thought it was pretty funny too so I didn't feel so bad, i wasnt aloud to drive the boat after that

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

WE jumped onto the tube with joy, and we were all eager to go riding. After sitting behind the boat on the tube for a while, the smell of gas was so overpowering it started to give me a headache. Finally we went out of the cove to start riding.…

It was a Thursday night, on my first week of kindergarten. I hadn’t made many friends because I was so use to playing with my sister, that I wasn’t sure if I knew how to make friends. I wasn’t shy when I was around my immediate family, but if you would put me in a room with people that I didn’t know. Well, I wouldn’t say a word. I would be so quiet that I would just sit there and you could forget that I was in the room.…

My first day of middle school was hell, I have always been good at school. My grades have never been bad and neither have my actions and or attendance. Probably from having a mom that is also a teacher. I look at that as a good thing though, watching kids just goof off and not come to school then high school rolled around and it was like I got to look down on them because they did not prepare for bigger and better things. School wasn't bad for me because it was hard, it was bad because i was always shy in school.…
