Personal Narrative: Acoustic Guitar

Improved Essays
I first stared playing guitar when I was thirteen. An old friend of mine decided to give me his old acoustic guitar, and show me some of the basics. First, he showed me two of the easiest chords, G and E. At first, it was hard for me to transition from G to E, but after some practice, I was starting to get the hang of it. After that, my friend showed me how to play the intro to the song, Come As You Are by Nirvana. It was pretty easy; just three notes, no chords. We played it over and over again. The other parts of the song were a lot harder, and I wasn't ready to play those parts. My friend told me to just keep playing and practicing. Not long after that, I moved to the Bay Area. Fortunately, I met other people who played guitar. Some them played in downtown Mountain View for money. Others played in bands and toured all over the Bay Area. Some were really good, and others were plain terrible. They showed me how to play power chords, which are a lot easier than regular chords. They also showed me how to tune the …show more content…
It was pretty frustrating. I could hear the music in my head, but my fingers couldn't cooperate. For whatever reason, I was having trouble using my pinkie finger. I was a little jealous, of course. Every time I went over to his house, he had the guitar in his lap. He would play as I talked to him. I told him, “Wow man, you picked it up fast.” In the back of my mind, I'm screaming my fucking head off. It's important to mention that I hardly took time to practice. All I wanted to do was hang out with my friends. The reason my friend got so good, was because he hardly put his guitar down. He only put it down when he would go to

The day I started to play my instruments changed my life, each in a different way. In 2002 I was overjoyed to find out that my mother had enrolled me in piano lessons with a family friend. I remember sitting down in our living room at the brown Baldwin piano pushed against our fire place. The keyboard itself seemed to stretch on forever with its gigantic keys.…

Band camp was not difficult, but sweaty and just exhausting during the early morning hours. We would then have an hour of lunch, after that we separate the sections and had section meeting where we study the music and play it and also to discuss things about band.…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

This past nine weeks has definitely been a roller coaster. I’ve definitely cracked down more on myself and I’ve learned a lot of things in this time period. I think it really comes down to what I did to do well, the criticism I received on subjects that need tweaking, and occurrences that withhold me from getting the one. In my qualifying events (DI, POI), I seriously tried my hardest to practice and I know that I could’ve done even better.…
