Have you ever done something terrible and later felt insanely guilty? Well, I have. When I was in third grade, I downloaded a game for free. Little did I know then, but that game would somehow change me into the person I am today.
That game was called My Talking Angela, an app that is a spin-off of My Talking Tom, which is a spin-off of another app that is called Talking Tom. Anyway, in My Talking Angela, you receive a young cat, in which you are supposed to take care of. The flaw of this is that there is only so much that you can do in the aspect of taking care of her, but there was this glorious feature where you could dress her up and put makeup on her. I was thoroughly ashamed. To this day, I still am. My parents contemplated what they should do, while I contemplated what I should do. I felt bad about doing this to them, and I wanted to make up for it, but I just couldn’t seem to think of anything. None of it seemed big enough. So, I thought I would give my parents my iPad, since I wasn’t mature enough to have one, but they didn’t take my iPad, they just simply said not to do it again. Then came my punishment. I anticipated that they were going to take it out of my college fund, or make me give them whatever money I received for the rest of my life. But, they told me that all I had to do was work it off. They were going to deduct how ever much work I did off of what I spent. So, whenever needed, I would unload the dishwasher or take out the trash, or just simply do whatever they wanted done. I also made sure that I was extra nice to them and didn’t question whatever they asked me to do. And that experience changed me into the person I am today. I am very aware of what my actions may cause, I try to be money-conscience, and I try to be kind to everyone I come across. The experience was very important in shaping who I am, in making me into a better person. I grew up in an upper-middle class, white, Catholic family, in the middle of suburban Cary, North Carolina. Culture was a term introduced in school with pictures of exotic places and bright wardrobes; history lived inside textbooks with stories of war and migration. My fourth grade family history project contained one piece of information: my great-grandmother sailed to the States from Italy in 1904. The little history and culture introduced by my family showed me who I do not want to become. While the teachings of Christianity shaped me into a compassionate, open-hearted person, I struggle to accept the dogma that followed it.…

This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
