“Growing up in Africa wasn’t easy,” said Bahati saleh. She grew up in small town called Baraka in Congo, Africa. Baraka is small town located in the eastern Congolese province of South Kivu, on Lake Tanganyika. The trees are green, the ground is full of red dust and the concrete roads are nowhere to be found. The life is very different compared to America, people who live in small towns do not have the resources for their needs. When a person gets sick it is very hard for treatment, hospitals a very far away and expensive. The people have never seen skyscrapers, bridges, and at some point it can take weeks to see or hear airplanes fly above the town.

She decided to change her life by moving to America. Leaving her family behind was very difficult for her.
“It was the toughest decision I ever made, but in my heart I knew it was better for my children and I” Said Bahati Saleh. She moved with her children from Congo to Tucson, Arizona leaving her whole family behind. According to Bahati saleh, this was the biggest transition for her life “coming to America was the most exciting part of my life however, I was scared because I was going to a country where she does not know anyone, everything was different, having to adapt to a new language, different cultures, and having a better environment for my children.”

When Bahati thinks of the decision she made, she is content of her choice because coming to a new country helped her meet new people and made her feel like family. A big factor was that she was happy to see her children get an education, treatment of health, food, and clothing. When she was in Africa it was very difficult for her to get these needs, she is gratified what the nation has offered for her and her children. She and her children are now American citizens the oldest one is working as nursing assistance while the others are continue with their education to get a better job to help their family back in
