• This week, my boyfriend and I were arguing. I typically try not to argue with my boyfriend because I feel as though they are pointless. My goal is to love my boyfriend and be supportive, versus arguing. On this day, my boyfriend wanted to play a joke on me in front of his roommate. I 'm a nonsense person, and it’s hard to take jokes. Of course I laugh, however faking that you went to jail is nothing to play with. I was in Hanover baking cupcakes with a girl that is on my floor. He kept calling me on FaceTime, however my phone was on silent. Once I saw that he called me multiple times, I immediately called him back, it had to be an emergency. I called back, and he began to laugh. I overheard his roommate laugh and say tell her. I couldn 't …show more content…
My mother just came from surgery, and I wanted to go home so bad! I mean who wouldn 't. My father was supposed to pick me up, however he wasn 't answering the phone, I didn 't have time for that. I wanted someone to pick me up, as soon as they can so I called my aunt. She explained to me that she could pick me up, however it would be late. I didn 't complain, I was still going home so I told her okay. My father finally called me back and told me that he could get me at 5, I took his offer. It 's so funny to me that when you know you messed up something wrong, you try to get it back. My father messed up being with a great person, which is my mom. He wanted another chance, however my mother was extremely hesitate. We get in the car, I noticed that his phone rang. At first, I thought nothing of it. His conversation went silent until I heard him singing. I didn 't know what was going on until I heard him singing. I wanted to ask him was he still on the phone, but I wanted to wait, maybe I was wrong. I looked over and he was still on the phone singing a sexual song. I wanted to ask who it was and why was he doing that, but I continued to listen. I listened to the vocalic of the conversation, I wanted to listen to his tone and the volume of his voice to determine whether it was a lady or a man. Also, I wanted to focus on his kinesics, I wanted to see how focused he was on the conversation and his gestures. So many things were running across my mind. His tone was seductive. I knew he wasn’t talking to a man then, he’s not gay. No man would sing to another man. The volume of his voice was growing lower and lower when he noticed that I was listening to the conversation. His gestures were laughs, smiles, and tapping fingers. I participated in comprehensive listening, I was learning something new, something that was being hidden. I used

Negative attitudes and stereotypes are a part of society; they become bigger issues when these thoughts and beliefs turn into actions, such as discrimination and aggression. Over the last decade strides have been made to change societal ideals and norms but research shows discrimination among particular groups remains high. The results of a study done by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force shows that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community experience high rates of discrimination and violence (Grant et al., 2011). Theories on the formation of attitudes and stereotypes include Social Learning, Social Cognition, Implicit Association. Resent studies have started to examine the effects media can have on attitudes…

The earliest I can remember learning that my gender was different and treated differently from someone else’s was probably when I was five or six years old. I always had to wear a dress or an outfit that was always pink. I had to play with dolls and only do things that little girls would normally do and I of course noticed that boys didn’t have to do anything similar to me so I realized that I was being treated differently simply because I was a girl.…

And if I can't have that, can I at least watch a beautiful sunrise with a beautiful girl?" I rolled my eyes and pushed away his arm that had somehow wrapped around my shoulders with he was hitting on me. I then proceeded to push him away from me. I was disappointed when he didn't fall off the balcony. At least he had finally shut up.…

To the ones who believe asking, “What are you?” is a valid conversation starter, I am multiracial and proud, but to simplify my ethnicities to others when asked, I identify myself as Asian. I was stereotyped because of how we are perceived in media and society. I spent years cowering in my own skin because others made me believe I was not Asian because of the size of my eyes, the color of my hair, and my personal interests. I was ashamed of what I looked like since I was convinced it embodied who I am as a person.…

I was born a woman; probably my father wasn’t so happy about my gender. Perhaps he wanted a boy named after him. I can’t remember my first thought as a baby, but I’m sure I wasn’t able to distinguish between males and females, or the fact that the doctor was a male and the nurse was a female. I just knew I wanted to love and be loved regardless of my race, sex, or religion. My friend Melissa was raped, and it was her fault.…

Whenever I tell someone where I live, they automatically believe that I am in a gang even if I am only 5 feet tall. Living in Barrio Logan I have faced so many typical stereotypes about my neighborhood, but I don’t see it that way. Barrio Logan is not just a neighborhood, it's a supporting community. Everyone goes out of their way to make everyone seem like family. It has always been a diverse neighborhood with different ethnicities and religions that it has helped me learn to be accepting and open minded.…

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, we're all accustomed to a certain standard, or stereotype that needs to be played. Whether it's being captain of the cheerleading team or the smartest kid in your class, it's one way or another that's there's going to be someone who's supposed to follow by these stereotypes or standards just for the sole fact that that's them. Unfortunately for me, it couldn't get any worse, since being an African American female who unfortunately does not fit your typical, "angry black woman." Yes, that "angry black woman", bitter, closed-off, unarticulated, with serious father issues.…

I am a girl, and because of this it has been impossible to avoid the persecution and isolation that comes from sexism. Every situation I have experienced that have shaped me to be who I am I have experienced sexism. Due to the activities I was involved in, it was magnified because I chose to be a percussionist, a theater technician, an attorney for mock trial, and a member of debate club. These have all been historically male dominated communities. Yet still I overcame all of the negativity, and not only joined these activities but climbed to leadership positions and became prominent members of each group.…

This causes conflict when the man and women are trying to converse because the man may just sit silently as the women speaks. He is listening, but the woman does not believe so because he is not responding. This is because when girls talk to girls they usually make listener-noise. I noticed this when talking to my girlfriend; she would constantly maintain eye contact and remained lively in conversation. When compared to conversations with my male friends, where little to no noise or eye contact was made, differences in conversational habits become clear in everyday conversation.…
