My mother responded with, “Well a new job opened up in Booneville and he would be making a lot more money if he went and worked for them.” My family has never really been in financial trouble, this made me wonder why he would need to take the job, however I was not going to be the person to hold him back from this new opportunity. “I think we can handle it.” Was all I could muster for an answer to this harsh question. I had to learn to live by myself from basically five o’clock in the evening until I left for school in the morning. I also had to get my hardship license so I could drive myself to school and baseball practices in the morning. Adjusting to living by myself was the hardest part. I would often be nervous about being home alone throughout the night. I was forced to be alone because my mother worked the night shift. However, soon, preparing food and working on homework by myself became the norm. I understood that from this point on, nothing was going to change or get easier. Waking up on my own and getting ready was also somewhat difficult, having no parent home to nag at me repeatedly that I have to get up and get ready. After getting ready, my fifteen year old self would drive to school. I was the only one in my grade that was driving. This made me feel special, but it was also a burden. I was always in fear of getting lost, ending up somewhere where I did not belong, or even getting pulled over by the police. My mother was a huge help though, she was a great example for me to follow throughout this time of
