Personal Narrative: My First Job

Improved Essays
I got my first job at Walmart. It was a new, and exciting experience. I got to learn a new part of life. In life there are many stepping stones, and things that are expected of me to do so. We all have to get our first job, learn to budget, ride a bike, and work with others. I applied for Walmart online; after I was told by customer service that it is the only way to do so. I went home afterwards, and had my mom help me apply for my job. I went on my computer to look for the website, and it took me awhile to find it. When I did find it I had to make an account. After I made an account I had to log into it to start my application. I started by entering my personal information. I entered stuff like my birthdate, name, social security number, and contact information. Then I had to enter my job history. It is my first job so …show more content…
When they told me that I was very excited, and relieved that it went well. I told them I could start at any time; so they had me start on September 12, and my daily routine changed starting from that day forward.
So I went in, for orientation on September 12, and they gave me a tour and explained everything I needed to know. They told stuff like where the break room is, the claims area, and how the store is laid out. It was a lot to take in at one time, but I knew overtime I would have everything figured out.
I was training to become a cashier so a lot of the things related to the back room had nothing to do with me, but a good thing to know. I am the type of person that likes to try to know as much as possible; so knowing about the back room helped with helping customers on the floor.
Getting my first job was exciting and nerve wracking. I was nervous because I never have done it before, and exciting because it was the next stepping stone in my life. Through this experience I have learned how to deal with the public, and express

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

My first job was one that I had foolishly not considered an 'actual job' until the first day of training, and then another, more prominent realization the first couple days as I started. I applied to work in a position called a Camphand at the summer camp I had been going to for a few years, Camp Chrysalis. Fresh out of my junior year of high school, this was an exciting new opportunity for my peers and I to start working at camp after being a camper in an age appropriate setting. In my head, things had reversed for the better in comparison to the past. Instead of having to pay to go to camp, I was now getting paid to be at camp!…

The idea of being told that I had to work for the first time made me want to eat glass; but could it possibly have turned out for the better? In England, when you reach 10th grade you participate in a nationally accepted program called 'Work Experience'. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

Working at Mcdonald's was different than I expected. I thought my job was going to be horrible. Everyone makes Mcdonald's seem like the worst place to work. Before I worked my first shift I thought that I would mirror an instructor on how to assemble each sandwich, flip burgers, and take orders but instead on my first day they threw me on the grill and handed me a spatula. Luckily I had prior knowledge in the kitchen and I knew how to fry, grill, and assemble most sandwiches.…

You will work in the small Rite Aid, snuggled right between two huge museums. The job you had when you were 15 was handing out beverages to old, snotty, grumpy people, and for this job, you’ll be doing the same thing, but instead of beverages, it will be painkillers. At least in this workplace, there will be more of hassle since you’ll be working right in the middle of the city. It will be stressful dealing with customers, but at least you get to glance out the enormous window and take in the view of the busy street, the people, and the sky, a view that you could gaze at forever. The commotion of the city and the hums of the medicine machines would fill up your mind with comforting noises, not leaving enough room in your brain to over think the negatives in your…
