I know you can never be sure but its hoof beats were heavy and it was alone. That always peaks my interest when I am hunting a known big buck area so we will see tomorrow.

My wife came down and we spent our 10 year anniversary together here in camp today and I cooked Pigs In The Cornfield in the Dutch oven for dinner and served it up on my anniversary gift, a set of awesome deer print dishes. This is going to mean rising at 3:30am and hoofing it to make the twenty minute drive to where I launch my

After winter, comes spring and then summer, which quickly run into each other, and do not last long. With the coming of spring or “mud season” Moose watching and driving up and down New Hampshire’s famous “Moose Alley” (US Route 3) are perhaps the popular activity especially at dusk and dawn. Driving up and down route 3 looking for moose may be your cleanest option of activities at this point in the year. Also, with spring comes the return of some of the local birds, which include bald eagles and loons, which head to the lakes and rivers for their fill of trout, salmon and other…

So it finally snowed! I’m happy that it finally did and I built a snowman during the storm and it looks kind of…squared you could say. Since the snow is heavy, more of the leaves are now fallen off and it’s starting to look like winter. Today I went to my grandparents’ house to spend the few nights until thanksgiving. While driving out there, the corn fields and the bean fields were all covered with snow, you could tell that the deer were out and about since you could clearly see the footprints in the snow.…

If you didn’t know this already, guns are not the only weapon you can hunt deer with! Just because the masses may take to the field on opening day of gun season in November, it doesn’t mean the woods will be standing room only come September 1st. Archery hunters on public lands are only a fraction of rifle hunters that hunt public land. In many states archery hunters have two full months of hunting free of gun hunters. This is a perfect opportunity to get in the woods and tag an early season whitetail.…

Neither of the men saw any deer and the day was pretty much a bust. That evening Chase cooked some ribs that he had smoked the week prior, and Jason provided some apple cider that he had brought along. Although they had plenty to eat, they were running low on food reserves because of Chases snacking habits and were hoping to kill a deer the next morning to have a bunch of meat to take home that day. The weekend hunt proved to be unsuccessful and the two men yielded little more than a good time; which all things considered was more than enough to the cousins who hadn’t been on a vacation in years.…

Sadly, we couldn’t get a shot because it was still way too dark but it definitely got my adrenaline going. That was the exact moment I knew I was going to love hunting. When we finally got to the stand, I crawled up the ladder and sat down on the seat that my dad had provided for me, anxiously waiting for my time to prove that I really could be a hunter. I set my .270 in the corner and sat there patiently waiting for the sun to rise. Watching the sun rise over the horizon was breathtaking.…
