Vacation Experience Essay

It was a warm summer afternoon near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. My family decided that we needed to get some exercise on our vacation. We decided that we wanted to go on a hike, so we went to a very popular trail which was called the Hanging Lake trail. At the top on the mountain there are beautiful waterfalls and a large lake with very eye appealing scenery, hence the name “Hanging Lake”. Cayden and I were not very excited for this activity. Both of us were complaining and saying the same exact thing, “It is vacation and we are doing physical activity? No! We should be relaxing.” My parents did not care what we were saying; however, They had their minds set that we were going to go on a hike. Once we arrived at the trail, both of us were still not happy with this situation, but we knew there was nothing that we could do about it. As we were walking to the start of the …show more content…
I did not know how long it took for them to make it up here because I was so engaged in the landscape. My parents were astonished when we told them that we made it up in around 29 minutes. They said that they had to take so many breaks because the trail was so tiring. At first they thought we were lying, but I promised to them that we were not lying. My parents were very proud that we actually stuck to our goal and accomplished it. That moment is when I learned something that has stuck with me from that day on. Setting a goal to make it up the entire trail in under 30 minutes has impacted me into always making goals, no matter the instance. Setting goals has made me become successful, and I can thank my vacation to Colorado for

On Saturday April 25, at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center (LBVESC) we, all the students from government class, had to go and help clean up the trail for Paso del Indio. We had three different groups some were helping with the plants and cutting the grass, for myself I had a spading fork and we would have to pick up remains from trees or other plants and place them on a wheelbarrow, then another group would come and take it form a trail for the visitors. Besides all the students, there was Mr. Miller and a supervisor that would tell us where to place the grass or what need to be cleaned up. Throughout the day we all mostly put out our energy and cleaned up the trail.…

It was 1981. I had just graduated from high school, and another four-year commitment to “education” was the last thing I wanted to do. The problem was that all those other things required money, and thus a job. Unfortunately, at that time the country was in a severe recession, and the only state that seemed immunized to it was Texas. I had to make the decision whether to leave my birthplace, my family, and my friends or to pursue a new life and adventure over a thousand miles away.…

My perception that this was a simple climb was shattered as the incline began to increase and the trail became hazardously icy. With burning legs and struggling lungs, I resolved to take a momentary rest and began to consider retreat. As this attractive idea lurked in the outskirts of my mind, I reminisced previous experiences of my life where my decision to persevere through adversity had resulted in reward. Utilizing this mindset, I gained my second wind and endured the required miles to summit the peak. Awaiting me at the top was a view of an astonishing and inspirational landscape, which…
