Narrative Essay About Gymnastics

We were warming up. I had always thought it was the easiest and most boring part of practice. But I guess in gymnastics it really does matter. Being stretched and warming up skills. “First up cartwheels,” My coach Jason said.
Everyone would go through the lines on the floor and do cartwheels. Then we would all go through handstands, back walkovers, and Jumps. I had always loved doing these things because when I got a lot of power I would rebound and I felt like I could touch the sky.
“Now everyone go to the corners; we are going to warm up our tumbling” yelled Jason. His voice was loud but soft and comforting at the same time. Making sure everyone on the team could hear him.
We were beginning to do back handsprings, the easiest of all the tumbling for me. I would always do them on the freshly cut grass outside of my house. I would pretend I

Usually I go right to doing a roundoff backhandspring back tuck. I asked coach today, but he said I couldn’t. I went along with it and just did the roundoff back handspring. I started the trick. First up the roundoff, I got through it perfectly. My eyes were focused on the floor. It was navy blue with white tape lining the edges. The springs squeaking every time I land. I jump up and flip into my backhandspring, and with all the power in the world I land. The rebound made me feel like I was a bird. Able to stay in the air for a few seconds before I came back down. I started to come down all out of control. I couldn’t control my body, and all of a sudden I was on the ground. I fall all the time like this, so to everyone else it was no big deal. I noticed that I couldn’t feel my wrist. When I looked down it was misshapen. My arm and hand were in the correct places but in between there was a gap. I sat and stared at it for about 3 seconds before I quietly walked over, feeling a bit nauseous, to Carly. On my way over I popped it back into the socket where it should have been in the first

Then one day at practice on my last vault I had to do a round-off onto the table and flip off. When I was at the board I tripped in the middle of tumbling, and as I put my arm to the ground I heard a popping noise in my elbow. I did not think anything of it until…

I started to go with the mindset of throwing the backflip. I went up, hit the spine transfer, tail-tapped the pole at the top, and then came down the landing and was picking up speed. I came up on the pole jam at a high rate of speed and board-slid up it and 180 off it back onto the ground. Landing the way I did made me pick up even more speed. At this point I was probably rolling at 40-45mph.…

Now since we had three boys, Chris had to be in the center. It was a week until Nationals and I had to learn a new routine. I was moved to the back, had the shakiest stunts, and worst of all, I had to watch someone else shine during a routine that was choreographed for me. There was nothing I could do, so I practiced my new parts every night and learned them like the back of my hand.…

Tumbling is when you jump backwards and either put your arms down and push yourself over or you jump backward and set and grabs your knees and go back, or go backwards and twist fully or halfway. There a lot of different tumbles that can be done. They are all dangerous but if the job is done right everything is completely fine. When bending oneself arm during a tumble can lead to horrible things as in snapped necks and sprained fingers and arms. Not setting the arms in the middle of the tumble makes you low to the ground.…

One of these is to ball up into a tight ball. Angular momentum is represented by the formula L = (r)(m)(v) I Since angular momentum and the mass of the gymnast are constants, lowering the r (the distance of the body from the axis of rotation) causes an increase in velocity. The faster they spin the more flips they are able to perform.…

This weekend I had cheer practice and non-important subjects but I am only going to conclude cheer practice which I was very anxious about. Me and my team always start out with with ten laps around the gym and then warm up/stretch which to me it is very soothing and which is my favorite part. Then to follow up after that the team warms, we then do running tumbling and standing tumbling which is for example a roundoff back handsprings. I always enjoy warming up tumbling because it makes me feel joyful. Then we do a run through of the transitions and motions, then add tumbling.…
