Personal Narrative: Growing Up In A Soccer Team

Improved Essays
Growing up I was one of the few kids that actually loved going to school to learn. Weird, I know. Unfortunately the same place I loved to be at was also a place of my worst nightmares. At a young age I was antisocial and unable to start let alone hold a conversation with anyone. I got bullied for awhile, only had a couple of friends, and was always excluded from groups. I continued soccer and dance, but also decided to involve myself into a couple more activities. I joined a cheerleading squad. The football team I cheered for and cheerleading squad I was apart of were connected to the school we went to, so I knew most of the guys on the football team as well as the girls on the cheer squad. Along with cheer I joined another dance team. Only this one was more involved. It was a competition dance team that competed every week. To join the team tryouts were required. Cameron from my other dance team got me interested, so we tried out together. The girls that were already on the competition dance team were all around the age of 13-16. Cameron and I were around the age of 9 and 10. Making that team was an honor. We only had a day to learn the tryout routine. We worked super hard and never gave up. She had me over that night so we could help each other practice. Next day we arrived at the studio, ready to get tryouts over with. I remember thinking to myself, even if I don 't make the team it was all worth it because I made an amazing friend. There was no dead time that day it was super busy and fast paced. I felt good about the way I performed the day of tryouts. My instructor asked Cameron and I how we thought we did, and I responded. “All I have to say is, those older dancers better watch out because there are two new dancers ready to take their spots!” A couple years ago my response

Talking with these girls on and off the field helped me learn the individual skills, they all had to use on the field to help achieve the team goal of winning. After the season, I realized that it was a better decision for me to play on the JV team because I got a chance to play harder, to play more and to improve myself. Also I got the chance to increase my skills to meet my goal to make Varsity my senior year. Failing now makes me want to work that much harder to meet my goal as a senior and not just give up or call a quits. I believe that my failure was small in comparison to others failures, but yet again I was only a junior in high school.…
