I woke up around 10 o’clock a.m., because my family was downstairs crying extremely loud. I walked outside to get a break for the shenanigans inside my home. The sky was a pretty blue and the sun shined brighter than ever. I smiled knowing that he made it into heaven’s gates. My father came outside to gaze into the sky also and talk to me. My father, Emmett, was my uncle oldest brother. He told me, “Tivanni I know this will be hard, but you have to go get dressed”. I agreed with my father and walked into the house. Approximately 11:30 a.m. I was dressed and awaiting to leave my home. My entire family gathered in a circle and prayed to my uncle before we left. As I stepped onto the pavement, my ankles started to weaken. I was nervous. I did not know what to do at that moment in my life. I had not seen my uncle since the holiday. The world started to move in slow motion around me. I walked into the viewing room and couldn’t believe what I saw. My uncle laying in a casket, so peaceful. I walked towards him and touched his clothes to see if I had still been asleep. He had on a Georgia hat, a red vest with a white button up vest underneath and a gold Burberry watch. I touched his Georgia hat, and I replayed the last day I saw him in my head. His voiced echoed

Great Grandma’s Basement Spending time with family is always important and meaningful, but lately I’ve realized these moments won’t last forever. Significant people pass away and we must move on. By significant people, I’m referring to my great grandma Viola. While I was serving at her funeral a year ago, tears flowing down my face, I reminisced about the glorious times I spent at her house, especially Christmas six years ago. Because my cousins and I live thirty minutes away from each other and all lead busy lives, we tend to only see each other during the holidays.…

I entered the house through the unorganized and cramped garage to be greeted by the sight of my parents waiting for my brother and I to return home from school. Then it hit me: grandma was no longer with us. Years prior, my grandma had been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. Due to her age and severe symptoms, it was certainly a death sentence. The youthful 65 year old had transformed into a old 90 year old in a matter of 5 years and she was no longer able to do the things that she loved, the things that made her who she was.…

Everyone there had known that she had been on the brink of death for a few months, but they still had trouble comprehending what had happened. A few weeks later after the dust had began to settle in my mind, the thoughts of her death started to creep up on me during around Thanksgiving. Like I mentioned earlier, she had been a part of our Thanksgiving dinner for a long time and the realization that she wouldn’t be there hit our home; especially my mother. This all led up to me thinking about death; sitting in the chapel sparked a realization how everyone I know, including myself, will eventually die. I finished grocery shopping and on my way back home.
