Fear begins its endless search for an unsteady victim by first implanting itself through a person’s life in simple ways. Something as simple as asking for help, sharing an answer in a classroom, applying for a job, or trying to pursue a new relationship can create the first step in the door for fear . At first, it doesn’t seem drastic. The first step seems irrelevant, until a long day turns into a late arrival home, and one of fear’s victims becomes alone again in the unquiet darkness, with only fear’s hollow grasp to comfort them. As cold nightmares drag regrets,insecurities, pain and isolation into the mind, the presence of fear becomes not only known, but unignorable. Days that were once warm and soft become clouded and concealed by darker fear.

In turn fear stole my happiness. Clearly, there is no way of completely avoiding fear, but when it’s not contained it becomes like a parasite and takes over lives. In my case, I am still a little afraid, and I realize that the parasite was fed by my notorious habits of hiding from conflicts, whether they’re confrontational or future conflicts that I could prepare for. For others, fear might affect them in different ways than I have experienced, but in general, it weakens a person’s spirit. Just like a leak, one day fear gets too strong and we drown, but we shouldn't be scared of being alone because our happiness will have already
