Nothing bad was expected to happen on a family vacation. During the summer of 2014, my tight-knit family took a trip to Panama City, Florida. We anticipated this vacation for 3 years. We planned, made reservations, and finally went through with our trip. However, none of us flew in a plane before, so my family decided on driving instead. Leaving around 6 in the afternoon and only stopping a couple of times gave us an expected arrival time of 9 A.M. the following day. I decided to stay awake through the whole night and sleep the entire way there to shorten the boring driving time. Instead, my emotions forced me to stay awake almost the whole trip, making the expedition feel longer than it actually lasted. Time ticked on slower and slower.

The size of the ocean’s waves multiplied. The local news played in the living room of the condo with my whole family around. The newscasters said one of the three water spouts could possibly make landfall and cause a heavy amount of damage, but no one knew for sure. Fear and panic ran through my body. After a talk with the whole family, we decided to travel away from the water a little bit as a precaution. We sat in the car leaving all of our belongings behind. Hundreds of families fleeing the area filled the streets causing standstill traffic. We slowly made our way to a side street clear of cars. We drove down winding roads with no specific, desired destination. We finally arrived at a local fast food restaurant a couple miles down the road from the ocean. My family and I hoped that this was a safe place for us located away from the possible disaster. We waited out the storm in this little restaurant and looked outside to see the aftermath. To our surprise, nothing traumatic happened. We expected problems to conjure up because of the dangerous storm. Later, we learned that none of the water spouts touched land. All of the beach and surrounding buildings were left undamaged by the storm. We traveled back to the condo and carried forward with the rest of the vacation. Luckily, the crazy winds and water spouts left the beautiful Panama City Beach
