My First Trip Into the World of Electronic Music Lying in bed one summer evening about a year ago I realized the extent of my depression. As far as I knew, life was a desolate wasteland. Nothing made me happy anymore, not even the video games that had given me so much pleasure before. I heard a knock at the door that snapped me back to present.
“Come in” I yell.
The door opens and it’s my best friend Michael.
“Hey” I say quietly.
“What’s going on?” Michael asks.
“Not much, just relaxing.”
“Oh cool, you want to come over to my place and listen to these sick new tracks I got?”
“Yeah sure” I say not really wanting to.
I get ready real quick and force myself out the door. Fifteen minutes later we arrive at Michael’s house. It’s a beautiful …show more content…
He slowly brings down the needle, closes the cover, and takes a seat on the couch behind me. I’m lying on the chair thinking, “okay when does this end?” I felt so bored, as if nothing could make me happy. The lights were off, and the only light was from the streetlights outside. “Maybe I’ll just fall asleep” I think to myself. All of a sudden, the music starts. It’s this low pitched, fast, repetitive beat that I can’t help but listen to. I close my eyes. Another noise begins that I can’t describe any other way other than someone throwing discs repeatedly from their left and right hands. The music made me want to move, but I simply lay there, stunned by the music. It sounded like a DJ was playing this song for us live right there in Michael’s living room. I didn’t feel like I was in real life anymore. Another two tracks play and the record ends. I open my eyes and check my phone. An hour had passed, but it did not feel like it at all. I enjoy the way it makes me feel. Electronic music sparks my interest because it draws you in with a beat and keeps you in for the rest. The many sub genres of electronic keep me interested. The fact that electronic music has been around since the 80s makes there so much of it. I feel it fits with my values because I am hedonistic. I seek pleasure in life and electronic, more specifically minimalism electronic is pleasure in sound. The music feels good, the way it sounds makes my brain happy. Listening to music can get in the way though. It is time consuming and takes away from homework time. When I am at my delivery job it makes me forget that I’m at work and on a delivery. People probably wouldn’t expect me to listen to this kind of music. When they hear it, they would probably think someone who takes a lot of drugs would listen to this music, which is not the case with me. It is a little different and definitely not for everyone, but it makes me happy. I wish I could make everyone feel how I feel when I hear certain tracks and albums. These days, I don’t get to listen to any tracks on vinyl, but I do use a very nice Bluetooth speaker. It has quality sound and is able to pick up on all the instruments you might not hear on a lower quality set
