My project is about dolphins in captivity. Dolphins are being taken from their homes and families and put into small tanks and pools for people to look at and watch them perform tricks. Dolphins often swim over 100km a day but dolphins that are held in captivity don’t get nearly as much exercise. These dolphins are often bored and are either sitting at the bottom of the pool or floating at the top, but dolphins in the wild don’t usually rest and are very active.. When sleeping, dolphins sleep with half of their brain while the other half is still awake and swimming. While half of their brain sleeps they still slowly swim and are still active. The chlorine in the pools to keep the water clean can be harmful to the dolphins. Dolphins are often taken from the the wild at a young age so some dolphins won’t even know how to hunt on their own. Dolphins in the wild catch fish for food but when they are caught people feed them frozen fish for doing tricks. So if they are let back in the wild they will have no knowledge of how to survive in the ocean. Dolphins often live between 40 to 60 years depending on …show more content…
Dolphins are mainly used for entertainment at amusement parks and aquariums. People are using dolphins like dogs or pets by training them to do special tricks, but dolphins are mammals not pets. People train dolphins because they are easy to train and co-operate well. People say that dolphins and humans have a special bond. People have done experiments on dolphins to see how they interact with humans while in captivity and some results have been that they created a good bond with some humans. Some dolphins misbehave because they have been separated from their families and put into captivity with dolphins they don’t know or some dolphins are all alone. When people go to see dolphin shows they don’t realize how these dolphins are being
