Personal Narrative Essay: The Day Of Cheerleading

We Did It

Today’s the day, I thought to myself as I awoke from a restless night of sleep. Today I will prove to my family that this sport was worth all the time and money they invested. My friends will finally understand why I always denied their invitation to hang out at school. I will be able to show my worth to the team and to my coach. Today is the day of my first cheerleading competition with Kaiser high school.
I hopped out of bed and immediately ran through the routine three times before heading to the bathroom to get ready for the day. I gathered everything needed for the competition. I put my uniform, hair, and makeup supplies into my cheer bag. Downstairs, my mother made a nice athlete’s breakfast which included two sunnyside up eggs, a salad, and toast. Sadly, I couldn’t finish my meal because I was feeling very nervous and excited for my competition, the most I could eat

I look outside of the window and saw many different teams and different school colors. I even got a glance at the best of the best in Hawaii High School cheerleading; Radford High School. They are the number one high school cheerleading team. Their team is filled with members that are able to perform at the highest skill level allowed in high school cheerleading. Just that one glance made my heart drop and I couldn’t move because I was too nervous. Eventually, I regained my composure and walked off of the bus with my fellow teammates. As we walked into the gym I smelt a waft of hairspray, makeup, and perfume. It smells like someone sprayed all the sample perfumes at the same time at Macy’s. I began looking around and was surprised at the number of people in the gym. I had never seen so much different cheerleaders in one place before.
