Narrative Essay About Canoeing

It was a warm sunny day in the middle of July. This was a special day for me, because it was the day I got to go canoeing. Not only that, but I went with all my cousins, and everything is a lot more fun when I do things with them. Many people are quick to assume that activities such as canoeing are for outdoorsy people who have nothing to do. I thought the same thing, but my perspective started to change as the day went on. Little did I know that this seemingly innocent day would turn into one of my life’s most embarrassing moments.

The day started off pretty normal. I was in the middle of my summer break, and my family and I had gone to our cousin’s house in Virginia for a couple of nights. I started the day off with waking up to Michael

“AWWWW!” We all moaned. Reluctantly, we all got into our cars and started heading down toward the beach. While we were driving, my uncle did something that shocked both me and all my cousins in the car. “Saad, you’re getting older”, he said. “You’re going to learn to drive in a couple of years, so let me give you a head start. Go on, steer the …show more content…
Then the Google Maps navigator said, “Your destination is on the right.” So then my uncle took the wheel, and drove into the parking lot. We then went to the registration desk and confirmed our reservation. We were then given a short briefing on how to handle the canoes and how our life jackets work. We then got to the canoes. I decided to go alone because the manager said that if you ride alone, you’ll go faster. I took the paddle and sat down. Then, my aunt pushed my canoe into the lake and I was off into the lake. I could already feel the blood rushing through my body and my heart beating faster. I swung the paddle in and out of the water and slowly started to pick up speed, until a loud CRASH! My canoe slammed into my cousin’s paddleboat. “Hey watch it!” She

“Here we are,” I thought to myself as my parents and I pulled up to a big oak tree in our old, puke colored Subaru. The massive tree overlooked the Boston Harbor and the enormous cruise boats on it. Under the oak stood an assortment of kids and instructors from all over the world. No a one of them knowing what they were about to get their self into.…

Om this specific day my parents, two brother, my uncle, my aunt, and I were all on the boat, swimming and exploring and having a blast. Until that is the rain clouds came out of nowhere and began to pour on us. Seeing a giant storm approaching, my uncle knew he needed to hurry and get us all home safe. I have never been on a boat that went as fast as my uncle’s boat seemed to go that day. Once we were back to the shore there was still the fact of getting to boat on to the trailer on my uncle’s truck.…

My previous camping trips I have taken in the past years have been memorable and full of hardship. I consider myself a very outgoing and adventurous person, that is why I go on crazy trips. Canoeing is my preferred way of traveling when touring lakes and rivers such as the Boundary waters and the Flambeau river. Major disadvantage of canoes is that they weigh up to 85 pounds. The weight matters being when crossing land to get to the next lake the canoe goes on your shoulders to carry it.…

Once we FINALLY got there my friends and I decided to take our shoes off and find a perfect spot in the white hot sand to set up of chairs and umbrella. We took our clothes off because our swim suits were underneath and sprinted to the clear blue ocean.…

When we came back my older brother was the only one excited because that meant he could go swimming. We were all so hungry that we ordered room service, while my brothers were in the pool with their friends. As I sat impatiently waiting for the food, I watched all of the cars pass by.
