Narrative Essay About Candy Day

One of the copious ways to bring a distant family together is just that, veritably bringing them together all in one location. My mother’s side of the family is the family that does the uttermost leviathan family reunions. These family reunions have consisted of going to one another’s houses and making candy, going to one another’s houses and just hanging out, and the biggest of all, renting out a school for a Saturday afternoon to bake candy. We call this holiday Candy Day. Another, sort of dumbed down version of Candy Day, is where we go to our aunt and uncle’s house and we just hang out and play in their yard. Their yard is no grassy field and their house is no mansion, but something about getting together with people who you you’re …show more content…
Candy Day, a time of connection and joy, can be one of the quintessentially fun days of the lead up to Christmas. The uttermost specific case of this excitement is when we rented out a school for a warm Saturday afternoon, nonetheless in December, and made as much candy as we could physically muster. At the time I was around 5 or 6 so the playground outside was the highlight of the experience. This playground, while it is less than satisfactory for someone older than 10, was nevertheless a literal dream come true to just about every 6 year old. For any child to have free reign of a playground without the restriction on time was just about the best concept I had dreamed up in my expansive and well lived life at the time. I remember playing in the sand on the Volleyball courts with my father, and I remember eating an entire field of “samples” as I saw fit. I remember this day being one of the best days in my life. This day, while I took it for granted at the time, is a joyous day looking back for me and, moreover, my …show more content…
That’s where our regular family reunion comes in. It may seem like a bit of a downgrade to go from a massive elementary school to a sweet little home in Lincoln, but I assure you at this age and my future ages this is the better option. I don't find myself playing on 3rd grade playgrounds very often as a 14 year old, so it was time for an upgrade. This upgrade comes in the package of going to my aunt and uncle’s house and just hanging out in their yard and eating food that people bring. However generic it may seem, this time is always a fantastic time. Little kids that, to my own ignorance, I’m related to play in the yard in front of us; my brother is still technically of age to do so, at least in his 11 year old mind, so he plays like a 6 year old with free reign of a playground. Sometimes that is just the extent of what happens and it is, in a way, bitter-sweet. At the age of my parents and my other close relatives, this is also the preferred option. Sitting by the campfire and roasting marshmallows over a conversation between relatives that you may not have known existed is a pastime that is more than welcome after a year of no contact. This time, while it may seem like a downgrade, is just the

Adolescent’s Effect on Ferris Bueller The adolescent age is a period of development that is described as the transition period between childhood and adulthood, taking place between the ages of 10 to 18 or even later, but often times not going much further then that. Ferris Bueller, the titular main character of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, is a fun-loving and mischievous adolescent played expertly by Matthew Broderick, who wants to have one final big day off from his high-school career. As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

To endure hardship, is more than just continuing to exist; it is continuing to exist in the same manner as before the suffering began. Many people need someone to help them endure their hardship and their suffering; however, others prefer to be by themselves. In the book Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, we can see these two ways of dealing with hardship and suffering in Candy and Curley’s wife, and in Crooks and George.…

Memories Growing up and traveling to Mexico as a child I remember my mother always packing our old, outgrown clothes. I never really understood why we would take all these things with us. “They sold them in stores didn 't they?…

Along with material culture, there was an abundance of speech acts throughout my Thanksgiving ritual. I noticed much talk about college and older family members giving college student family members advice about their career decisions. Thus, we participate in the “career advice ritual.” These statements include, “Make sure you attend class and get to know your professors” or “I hope you are participating in extra activities outside of class” or “Make sure that you can get a job out of college with your major choice” or “Do you have a part time job now? If not, get one.”…
