Being Brave Essay

Throughout my life there have been may opportunities where the only way to get through a situation is to be brave. I'm not the type of person to feel shy or nervous about things and can usually tackle anything without feeling a single drop in my stomach or fear in my head.
My best example in the past past year of being brave and using courage to get through it, has been working at this neighborhood pool. I started working there the summer after my freshman year of high school when I was only 15 years old. Because this is a neighborhood pool, there is only 2 guards on duty at a time with no other staff or management around. Of the 10 guards that worked there, most of us were under 18 which meant that an entire pool was held down by two kids

After my first month of working there, the cops had been called multiple times, the kids would fight and someone even got arrested. Everyday I would go to work and was scared I was either going to die or have to deal with something I ultimately wasn't ready for. At least once a day a neighbor would come up to me complaining and yelling about something that I had no control of. I took this job as an opportunity to make myself not only a stronger person but someone who could deal with all types of people. It didn't just take me a month or a Summer to build myself up, but 3 years. During my first summer lifeguarding, my mom would pick me and I would complain the whole car ride home saying how terrible and painful it was working there. Somehow when April came around, I got a text from my boss asking if I would be returning for another summer. I figured that this is the best way to experience a different culture of people and it would be the best thing for me to take on another year. I set a goal along w the other guards from the previous year that we would work together to be confident and stand up to people to make this summer at least a little better than the last. Bravery can be interpreted in several different ways, but to me it shows when you go out of your comfort zone to face fear to end up doing or making better for yourself and
