Personal Narrative: My Life As A Football Player

I dribbled up the court with anticipation. Already having scored a few points, I was sure that a great game was coming for me. My coach stood on the sidelines, arms crossed. She was tough, and this was where I needed to prove myself. She ordered the next play and I executed without hesitation, determined to out hustle and outscore our opponent. It was late June and summer league had just begun. My freshman year I had played on the Junior Varsity team, and these games were my chance to put on a varsity jersey for my upcoming sophomore season. I had received a great boost of confidence when I was informed that in addition to some JV games, I would be receiving playing time in the varsity games that same day. I was excited about this opportunity; this was something that I had been working towards since I was in grade school. I dribbled up the floor and called out the play to my teammates. Just as I was supposed to, I made a crossover from right to left. At that instance, pain shot up my hand as it caught on the defender 's own. All I could do was try and get the ball in the hands of one of my guards. Desperately, I tried to come off of the floor; I was sure that I had dislocated my index finger. Just like Adam Shepard in Scratch Beginnings, I was going to have a new lifestyle in many ways. A similar struggle between Adam and myself was primarily how we were going to live as far as the things we were to do with our time. Now I had all of this extra time that I would have spent in the gym shooting around, while Adam also had all of this open time not having any obligations as he started his new life in Charleston. As Adam filled up his time with working to reach his financial goal, I got rid of all of my extra free time by putting hard work and a lot of time into other school sports I participated
