On February 13th at around 6 in the morning when she was born Jen was with me. For, Jen is all I really had left. They handed me the small delicate newborn baby girl, and I cried. I cried tears of joy. Never in all my life did I ever see a more beautiful baby girl.

She had dark brownish-black thick hair. It seemed to be a mix of Aiden’s hair color and my hair color. She had my nose but everything else was a spitting image of Aiden. She doesn’t realize how lucky she really is yet to be blessed with such awesome facial features. “She’s beautiful Laura,” said Jen. “I know,” I said crying. “What’s wrong honey?” she asked concerned. “He should be here for this. He was so excited for this moment and he can’t see it.” “Oh he’s here Laura,

She responds well to voices so I usually just read to her and she stays quiet.”
“Amazing. She may be a best-selling author like her daddy one day.”
“She just might at the pace she’s going with books.”
Lisa, a television host, turned to the audience, “Aiden Fitzpatrick’s novel Star-Crossed Horizons was on the NY Times bestseller list for 8 consecutive weeks and is now available for the first time in digital form.”

The show was over and Lisa thanked me for making an appearance on the show. I pick up Cathy and begin packing my things. My phone then violently started ringing. “Hello?” I said collecting Cathy’s things. “Are you coming to Oliver’s 1st birthday party today?” asked Jen. “I have a book interview and party later. I’ll try and make it when it’s done, I’ll leave early if I have to.” “If you’re busy with book stuff then don’t come. It is okay really that stuff is more important.” “No really Jen. I cannot miss my little buddy turn one years old. Even if I miss the party, which I’ll try and not do, can I come over

Everyone has asked me about Aiden. What was he like? How did he come up with the idea for this book? I know you all never met Aiden except for his publisher and editor who can’t make it here today. But let me tell you I as a person never met a more outgoing yet serious man in my whole 45 years of living. Aiden was the type of guy who made you laugh when you needed to most. He was the type of guy who would always be by your side no matter what was happening in his life. He was the type of guy who loved unconditionally and did so until the day he died. Aiden was a writer who put every thought and life event to paper. Every emotion he felt he wrote it down. So if you all want to see how this miraculous man thought or felt in his life just read his book. The answers you all want from me are in his book. This isn’t just a regular story about how much a man loved a woman. This is much more than that,” I lifted the book, “this right here is Aiden Fitzpatrick. As long as you people read this book he will remain alive,” I pointed to my heart, “right here.”

The crowd applauded at the straightforward speech I had given. I meant every word. I now can only hope that Aiden was there watching me address the crowd the way I did for him. I went over a picked up my Cathy and just stared into her deep eyes of green. He was there, he watched me just now and he is smiling. The door to Aiden is through

Schools had off because of Martin Luther King Day, so Emily and Melissa had plans to go to Laura’s house; nothing special, just to hang with some friends, play some ping pong, eat, maybe even watch a movie. As Emily and Melissa were about to venture to Miramar, they first had to say their goodbyes to their parents, as they always did before leaving. Their mom sat on the couch, like always, in her fluffy, pink, penguin pajama-pants and white tank-top. “Bye mom going to Laura’s love you”, Emily enthusiastically and quickly proclaimed, almost as if sarcastically and speaking in a runoff statement. Emily gave a quick kiss on the cheek to both her mother and father and raced out the door to Alivia’s…

How baby talk can help? As mentioned above, baby talk is characterized by slower and more repetitive tone than used in regular conversation and the speech is more likely in shorter, simpler utterances. Do infants pay greater attention to speech with such characteristics? The answer appears to be yes: They show a clear preference for it, from an early age, over adult-directed speech (e.g., Fernald 1985; Panneton Cooper & Aslin 1990; Werker, Pegg, & McLeod 1994; see also Zangl & Mills 2007).…
