Narrative Argument Essay A life without sports. Can it even be imagined? A life without ESPN, Sports Center, Gameday, or any other sports news stations. No olympic games or super bowls, not even a high school volleyball match. In our current world, sports are everywhere; there are hundreds of sports to watch and play, and thousands of sports teams to support and despise. The only problem with so many options is some tend to be overlooked. The US Women’s soccer team, for example, is under credited and inadequately paid.

As a female soccer player, I know that soccer is a grueling sport, both physically and mentally; you have to keep running even when you feel like your legs will give out, you must keep fighting even when you feel like fighting no longer, and it is vital to maintain focus throughout the entirety of the match, which is no small feet. The feeling of victory after winning a tough battle is unparalleled to any other experience in life; knowing that you have worked so hard for this one goal and achieving it is an amazing accomplishment, but work has to be put in before you can get to that spot. There are only three substitutions allowed each game in the Women’s World Cup. This means that the majority of the players have to be physically fit enough to play for ninety solid minutes of playing, and sometimes more, with only one break for halftime (Badwan). The team spends countless hours in the weightroom and on the field training with anaerobic and aerobic exercises to keep them in prime condition (Skyword). Not just anyone can try out and make this national team. With only about eighteen open spots, and eleven on the field at a time, it is nearly impossible to make it to that level (USSoccer). The Women’s National team also do better in their tournaments than the Men's National Team. In 2015 the US Women’s soccer team won the World Cup while the men's team lost in the first round of play in their 2014 World Cup (Kahli). In fact, the US Men’s National Team has never made it to the championship match in the history of the FIFA World Cup Games (Wood). Meanwhile, the US Women’s National Team is the most successful in the world, having been in the championship match for the FIFA Women’s World Cup four times, and winning three FIFA World Cups, including the first ever women’s world cup in history (“Women’s”).
