Large Dinner Party

I walk into this large dinner party. Everything looks so fancy and beautiful. As I walk in there are others coming in wearing only rich clothes and diamond jewelry. We are all told to take a seat and to sit quiet. I hear this conversation that has nothing to do with the fact that we are all supposed to be here and have a nice dinner. The conversation seems to be between a young girl and the colonel. They’re arguing about how women are nowadays. The young girl says that women do have control and aren’t always scared and how they can be brave just like men, But the colonel seems to disagree because he seems to be saying the opposite of what the young girl is saying. I want to tell them to be quiet as what we were told to do in the beginning, but I don’t want things to get worse. So I stay quiet, listen to them argue, but …show more content…

I see her whispering into this native boy and as he is listening to her the boy has his mouth open and his eyes wide open. He leaves the room quickly as possible and the doors room shuts loud. I see no one is paying attention to what is happening except me. I am the only one. I see the boy places a bowl of milk gently on the veranda just outside the open doors. I look around the room to see if there is a snake, but I can’t seem to find it. I try to not look too suspicious because the people will think there’s something wrong and start to question me and freak out, so I keep

There is tension in the air until the violence finally commences and the peacefulness of the setting shatters. The descriptions of the “dense” and “paper-bag” bushes nearby illustrate a harsher environment. They signify a struggle in non-desirable circumstances, which greatly contrasts with the past desert scene. When the snake dies, however, its death does not restore the previous setting. The man begins to deal with guilt, and out of respect, he moves the snake into the “close green guardian-ship” of the bushes.…

In ‘The Rattler”, the tension and duty reflect the sorrow the man felt after killing the snake, but revealed his role when protecting others. The man was not at ease when he consciously decided to take the life of one of nature's creatures, but was enlightened knowing that he saved human lives that were potentially in danger. In other word, the man was conflicted between choosing to kill an innocent, but harmful snake or to fulfill his job of protecting the weak.
