Behavior analyses have to conduct an assessment plan before appropriate treatment plan can began. Assessment can be conducted in home, school, or clinic settings. There is a variety of information that needs to be collected to determine the factors influencing the occurrence of behaviors (antecedents, consequences, motivating operations, and settings). It is also necessary to include direct observations, experimental analysis, and conduct interviews. Assessments are conducted in form(s) of check lists, direct observation, interviews and test. Direct observations and test are direct assessments because they provide information about a person’s behavior as it occurs. (Cooper, Heron, and Heward, 2007).

Indirect forms can be information gained from caregivers, parents, or teachers involved daily in the clients life. Also, data review, rating scales, records reviews are all forms of indirect forms of collecting data. Therapist will collect data on why the behaviors are occurring such as for attention, gain reinforcement, escape, or sensory stimulations.
