Behavior analyses have to conduct an assessment plan before appropriate treatment plan can began. Assessment can be conducted in home, school, or clinic settings. There is a variety of information that needs to be collected to determine the factors influencing the occurrence of behaviors (antecedents, consequences, motivating operations, and settings). It is also necessary to include direct observations, experimental analysis, and conduct interviews. Assessments are conducted in form(s) of check lists, direct observation, interviews and test. Direct observations and test are direct assessments because they provide information about a person’s behavior as it occurs. (Cooper, Heron, and Heward, 2007).

Data can be collected in the form indirect or direct forms. Direct forms such as ABC forms (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence) or direct observations. Indirect forms can be information gained from caregivers, parents, or teachers involved daily in the clients life. Also, data review, rating scales, records reviews are all forms of indirect forms of collecting data. Therapist will collect data on why the behaviors are occurring such as for attention, gain reinforcement, escape, or sensory stimulations. Assessment tools such as Reinforcement Assessment for Individuals with Severe Disabilities (RAISD) can be used to collect data on Chester. Identify what can be used as reinforces such as chips, juice trains, or cars. However tangible items should be used sparingly to prevent any long term effects on the client’s health. It would need to be determined the target behaviors and have them specifically defined (crying, dropping to the floor, and hitting). Furthermore, this will help determine the target behaviors to increase and decrease within the client’s behaviors. Also, determining the compliance level (example will be determined within 15 sec of 2nd prompt) and the client’s social skills level (reciprocal play or parallel play with Chester’s siblings. It has to be effective and cost effective for the client/patients. Behavior therapist must stay current on the most current scientific evidence based interventions and treatments. It important to maintaining competence (APA 2.01), based on their training, supervised experience, consultation, study or professional experience.
