Correctional officers should not accept anything from the inmates, therefore, I would report the incident. Whether or not the exchanges are reciprocal is not for me to decide. Based on appearances alone, such a transaction from inmate to correctional officer is being watched and evaluated by peers and inmates alike. Such exchanges gives the appearance of impropriety in several directions from jailer to inmate to trustee and fellow officers. In addition, it is a safety issue, what if the candy or snacks were laced with something like a narcotic or poison, the narcotic could ruin the jailers career and a poison could mean death. It could be an ethical dilemma in the sense that if that it was truly just a kind gesture than you put a black mark
