Noah Weiss 12/14/15 ENGLISH ESSAY “I am the best person ever to be born”. This is a stament a narcissistic person may say. Do you know someone like this? Not only does narcissistic behavior impact the person who expresses it, but it also affects the people around them in negative ways. As shown in the story of Narcissus, those who loved him and, information about the syndrome narcissism. Narcissus was a self-centered Greek, who was obsessed with his own appearance. He was the son of Liriope, a Nymph and Kehisos, a Greek river-god. Narcissus’s love for himself got to such an unimaginable point that he ignored other people’s love for him. There are many Greek myths that explain the story of Narcissus and the curses brought about by his beauty, as well as the origin of the syndrome narcissism (Theio) (Greek-myth).Due to Narcissus’s beauty, many humans admired and loved him. …show more content…
Echo fell in love with Narcissus, but he rejected her. Before she fell in love with him, she was cursed by Hera. The curse made Echo only able to repeat the last words of the person she had been speaking to said. When she faded away, she left nothing behind but her echo. Another story was about Narcissus and Ameinias. Ameinias was in love with Narcissus and became upset when Narcissus rejected him Ameinias went to the steps of Narcissus’s house and killed himself. Before killing himself, he prayed to the goddess Nemesis to avenge him and teach Narcissus a lesson.One day when Narcissus was by the river, he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it. He didn’t realize that what he was seeing was himself so he jumped in trying to get the image he saw. While
