The exact cause of antisocial personality disorder is unknown, however:
•Genes may make you vulnerable to developing sociopathic personality disorder
•Changes in the way the brain functions may have resulted from brain damage

• NURSING INTERVENTIONS-
1. Administer prescribed medication to treat underlying conditions, such as anxiety. Xanax is medication of choice for anxiety.
Assess degree and manifestation of anxiety. Rational: For proper follow up to ensure the medication did what it was supposed to do and improved the anxiety.
Assess for drowsiness, light-headedness, and dizziness. Rational: adjustment to the medication may be necessary.
Monitor CBC and liver and renal function periodically. Rational: may cause decrease in liver and renal function and decrease in hematocrit and neutropenia
2. Observe for signs of drug or alcohol withdrawal. Rational- these patients commonly use drugs and abuse alcohol, withdrawal can interfere with …show more content…
Encourage the patient to identify the actions that resulted in hospitalization. Rational- self refection is a therapeutical method used to change behavioral disorders
4. Give positive feedback for honesty. Rational- to reinforce honesty, these patients tend to lie a lot especially to authority.
5. When confronting a patient about their inappropriate actions make sure it’s in a calm and non-threatening way and make sure there is another staff member present or nearby. Rational- these patients become hostile when confronted and may lose control of their rage. They may also lie to another staff member or family member and say the nurse was abusive during the interaction.
6. Ensure the patient has not “cheeked” their medication. Rational- They may be saving it up to overdose on it or abuse it to get high later.
7. Encourage the family to engage in therapy with the client. Rational- sociopaths feel little to no emotions even to those they love and that’s how they are able to manipulate them so easily, by participating in family therapy the patient will form emotions that they must confront and talk about with the family and see how their actions has impacted their loved
