Narcissistic personality disorder is a general excess admiration; this disorder enables someone from empathizing with others. This disorder is generally one of the most difficult personalities to treat due to random personality patterns. Symptoms vary from grandiose sense of self-importance and preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success. This may be difficult to lead NPD patients to seek help due to their lack of acknowledgement of their certain weaknesses. This can be one of the large various issues that can be difficult for someone with NPD to seek help. The criterion in the DSM IV describes it as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), in need for admiration, and lack of empathy. The disorder is, the opposite of self-worship. It is the incapability to love oneself and also the inability to love another person (Ledernan, 1982). This disorder stretches from the patient not being able to love oneself, which the patient searches out for excessive admiration. With the inability to love another person this brings an issue where the patient had an issue of recognizing of identifying the feelings and needs of others. The lack of empathy is due to the preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success or beauty. NPD is established of the pattern of fixated with oneself, which can cause issues within relationships with others. Individuals with NPD has been found to occur in 6% of adults, more often in men than women Ronningstam (2012). With most patients, Psychotherapy will be the most effect attempts to find treatment, with that the therapist is one-on-one with the individual finding a way to focus on the changing grandiose and excessive vulnerable thinking.
