SLAM! The door closes with a crash as I awake from my slumber. As I crawl out of bed and start walking to the door, I hear an unfamiliar noise coming from the kitchen that sounds like sobbing mixed with mumbled curse words mixed under someone’s breath. Who could this be? Surely, not my father! I had never heard my father cry before in all my life and to say such harsh words! Daddy never curses unless something unimaginable happens. What is going on? I wonder. I decided that I had to go take a look for myself. But what about my brothers? Lars and Hans surely woke up with such a noise too. However, a quick glance in their room proved otherwise; they were still sound asleep. I decided to go investigate, as I am now awake, and it is my duty as big sister to know what is going on with the family. I quietly open my door …show more content…
I walk around the corner and try to eavesdrop but they are talking in too much of a whisper for me to hear them. I decide to go and wake Lars and Hans as I know they will want in on some of the action. I shake them both and they roll over in bed and let out a grumble. Typical boys I thought. I told them it was important and that Dad was crying. They instantly shot out of bed and started running for the door. NO! I thought, but it was too late. They were already entering the kitchen as I chased after them. They came to a halt as they saw Papa crying in his chair and Nannie comforting him while shedding a tear at the same time. “Now can you tell us what is going on?” I asked for the final time.
