Childhood On July 6, 1921, Anne Frances Robbins was born in New York City, she was an only child to Kenneth Robbins, a salesman, and Edith Luckett Robbins, an aspiring actress. From an early age, Anne acquired the nickname “Nancy”. During Nancy’s infancy, her father Kenneth left the marriage, leading to Edith to send her daughter to be raised by her aunt and uncle, Virginia and C. Audley Galbraith, in Bethesda, Maryland. While there, Nancy attended Sidwell Friends School. Her aunt would also travel with her to New York to visit her mother, when her mother was there for lengthy theater runs (1). When Nancy was eight, her mother Edith married a prominent Chicago neurosurgeon, Loyal Davis. Her body and brain grew efficiently to allow for her to partake in acting, graduation from high school and later college. Although she may have sustained the flu here or there, there are no known illnesses that may have impaired Nancy’s sensory or motor capacities. After her adoption by her father Loyal, it can be noted that they were a high income family, meaning Nancy and her brother received adequate nutrition in order for a ‘normal’ physical development to occur. Conversely, in mid-life Nancy experienced some major health issues. When she was 66, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. While this was a huge life event, Nancy took it in stride and still managed to perform outstanding service projects. This could show that her brain, sensory and motor capabilities where not impaired while her body was failing her. In late life, former first lady Nancy Reagan fell and fractured her pelvis. Her fracture did not require surgery, and she returned to full health after undergoing physical therapy
