In many works of literature, it is often a central point for minor characters to have substantial impacts on a novel. Khaled Hosseini’s “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” for instance, depicts a relationship between a mother and daughter that results in years of feeling unworthy, guilty, and hopeless. The fundamental basis of such a character has developed through the eyes of one of the two main female protagonists, Mariam. The novel connects the impact of the minor character, Nana, through events that have an effect on the Mariam. Such events would include detrimental acts and the prevalence of hopelessness. In this case, Nana becomes the primary character that presents a significant impact on both Mariam and the audience.
