(STEWE-1) Najmah is thinking of asking the keepers in the Bazaar so she can make money, this is a step for her to regaining her “voice”. When Najmah uses her voice to ask for jobs it helps her take control of her life and also helps her build confidence to be able to use her voice. Najmah is making the smart decision of asking the large store keepers because usually large shops have open job spots. “I also think of asking the keepers of the larger shops whether I can earn money by sweeping or delivering things for them.” (STEWE-2) Najmah is able to use her silence to her advantage in some cases. Najmah uses her silence to her advantage when she knows that she is doing something wrong, but if she does not speak or answer the question that she is being asked people will just ignore her. Najmah is glad that she can use her loss of voice in cases when she is in Peshawar and knows that you are not allowed to stay in the Bazaar, officials ask her but she is not able to answer. “Where are you staying?,” again I cannot answer. But this time I am glad because I am certain that staying in the Bazaar is not allowed. I take a deep breath.”
