Nag Reflection

Decent Essays
I had several low points. Finding out that I would not get to work with the patient I had worked hard to prepare for was discouraging. Being switched around so many times made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster all day. I tried to ask questions about the NAG and got put off both times. I wasn't sure if I needed to continue to work on the NAG of my original patient or if I needed to switch the NAG information to the second patient I was assigned to share with a fellow student. I was told we would discuss it at the end of the day, but it was a question that I needed answered at that time. My NAG is very incomplete and I feel behind. I checked a blood sugar which I had never done before, with only verbal instruction just prior to doing it.

For my written critique, I chose to talk about an AP pelvis and surgical lateral hip image that I performed on my ER days’ rotation. My patient complained of entire right hip pain. The patient stated that he had heard a loud popping sound when he stood up earlier that day. He had not walked since. The patient suffers from frequent hip dislocations and was positive that he had dislocated it once again.…

Dr. and fellow Colleagues: For myself it has been a long road, but I can honestly said that over these past ten weeks I start to realized what does a Nurse Practitioner responsibility will be when I take over my own patient load. I gave thank you to my preceptor in this class since he spends many hours explaining what my role will be in near future. I feel scare, but I had the same feeling when I finish my first nursing education as Register Nurse. I honestly believe that I met the objectives for this class and look forward to passing my boards.…

“The risk of VTE is significantly increased in patients who are hospitalised after trauma, surgery or immobilising medical illness, and also in pregnant and puerperal women, and DVT is common in such individuals.” (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, 2010, p. 2) So my primary goal is to learn how to prevent Venous Thromboembolism for post-surgical patients and be familiar with the different guidelines set in the UK and in the hospital that I am working in. I decided to choose this topic because, in the hospital that I came from, VTE is not given much importance especially in patients who just came from surgery or patients who has not mobilized for a long period of time. This may be due to the fact that VTE prophylaxis treatments there…

Journal #7: Reframing When I came across the topic of reframing in this week’s readings, I immediately thought of myself, and the way I tend to handle difficult and/or stressful situations. Unfortunately, when something doesn’t go my way, I tend to become irritated and ask myself why I have such bad luck. Recently, however, I have noticed myself reframing issues, even when I had never heard of this as a topic before reading chapter 10. For instance, in the beginning of the school year at USC, I was denied a waiver for the USC health insurance plan, which ended up costing me $600. I was initially pretty angry that I would have to pay this amount, because I did have insurance, just not insurance that qualified to allow me to obtain a waiver.…

I noticed that the patient seemed unable to focus and almost falling asleep so we discontinued the session and sought out a nurse. The nurse later informed us that the patient had just come back with a blood glucose of 28, which would explain his inability to stay awake. After the patient had some dinner, we were able to continue our medication reconciliation. This time the patient was feeling significantly better, and we were able to get quality answers. We did not notice any problems with his medications or pick-up any problems with compliance so the medication reconciliation went…

On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon after school, I was able to take a peek into my future. I have always been excited to become a nurse since I decided that this will be my major, and on that Wednesday I was able to experience this first hand. At my mother’s work, Behavioral Healthcare Partners, I was lucky enough to be sent to work in their medical office. Not only did I have an unbelieveable mixture of nerves and excitement during this experience, but I also learned a lot my first, second, and third day here working in the medical department. I felt my heart racing as I entered the medical building at Behavioral Healthcare Partners as I was about to see what the rest of my life may be centered around.…

The concepts delivered throughout the management problem-solving course have provided me with valuable simulated real-life experiences which can be applied in my everyday work life as a HR Administrator with aspirations of progressing my career. The course delivery was such that as a student, I was able to use my existing knowledge and skills, in addition to that of my peers, to analyse and explore complex organisational problems. This course has challenged the way I think and deepened my understanding of the problem-solving process, which has enabled me to perceive issues from new perspectives, I once would not have considered. Additionally, it has also allowed me to make explicit and authentic connections between the course content and my…
