First, Beth should not adopt the policy of English first. In the Naeyc Code of conduct section I-1.11 it says, “To provide all children with experiences in a language that they know, as well as support children in maintaining the use of their home language and in English.” This here shows that policy is being broken. Every child should be given the chance to express themselves however language they feel comfortable with. Beth as a new teacher should come up with a plan to merge languages so that students can learn better. She should speak to Harry and discuss her concern and explain that just because a student doesn’t speak very good English should not be an excuse for them to fail.
