PreMadonna Can Now Afford to Be a Primadonna

Nakeitha “PreMadonna” Felder is an aspiring recording artist. Unlike other starving artists, she does not need to wait tables, at least not anymore.

Felder is the inspiration behind Waist Gang Society clothing, a line of women's shapewear. I made my first nickel when I was six by investing in a school business run by the fourth-grade moguls. Every year, they collected a dollar from prospective investors and used the contributions to purchase ingredients for a dessert sold at lunchtime. Later, they would return the money with interest. I invested in these ventures annually, and eventually, it was my turn to be an entrepreneur. The dessert we sold that year was snow cones, and more than earning money, I loved the way I made people happy as I handed them their colorful, syrup-covered ice.…
