However, after reading Horace Miner’s paper over these individuals I doubt I will ever forget about them. After reading this article I thought to myself I could never live my life the way they do. Also, I have been educated about multiple customs, beliefs, and rituals in our world but never have I heard of this. Sometimes while reading story readers can visualize who they are reading about and create their character(s). Although we never read an individual’s name or hear about one individual's daily life, the audience still can imagine who these people are and how their lives are lived. How these individuals seek out powerful people to heal them by inflicting pain and placing medicine where they inflicted the injury. How the really injured or ill individuals go to temples where they can be healed but have also been known to kill people. After reading and thinking about the descriptions that Horace gave I would have to agree with him about them fitting a sadistic profile from an outside viewpoint. However, if I belonged to their culture and society then I would disagree with Horace and explain to him that our rituals are in place to bring healing and wellness to our families and to individuals. The Nacirema hold different social norms compared to other societies. Either way, I do agree with Horace that not enough is known about the Nacirema people and their culture for us to make assumptions
