There are several physical and chemical methods, of which the simplest method involves the reduction of the metal salt AgNO3 by NaBH4 in water. Wiley and his coworkers synthesized three different shapes of silver nanoparticles using chemical method, in which ethylene glycol used as both solvent and reducing agent [5]. This group synthesized cubic silver nanoparticles by reduction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) with ethylene glycol in the presence of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and HCl. After synthesis the cubic silver nanoparticles were isolated by centrifugation then washed with water to remove ethylene glycol and excess PVP, and finally dispersed in deionized water for storage.
