#10 Summons Instead of Arrests, a New Ruling in Manhattan On March 1, 2016, New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Manhattan County District Attorney’s Office announced a new ruling about low-level offenses with regards to treatment to the offenders. Low-level offenses are non-criminal violations such as drinking alcohol in public, taking up to two seats in subways, urinating in public, littering, making too much noise, or parking violations. Starting on March 7, 2016, summons can be issued to offenders of low level offenses instead of arrest, if not found as a public safety risk. The rise of this policy change rooted from the intention to remove thousands of cases annually from the state courts, and would save valuable police resources and give the opportunity to focus their efforts on the individuals involved in violent crimes in New York City instead.…

The Law Enforcement Community has become highly visible targets for citizens to degraded and disregard their authority. For some reason, police officers suddenly represent inequality in our society, and their training and enforcement abilities are under intense scrutiny. The safety of officers is compromised daily as they try to serve and protect our communities. My experience with law enforcement is first-hand because my dad and brother have both served their communities. Because of aggression and disrespect for the law that many people have today, Kevin was shot twice on August 19, 2015, once in the chest and once in the shoulder, while trying to arrest a prowler.…

Police Brutality Police officers are the brave men and women out on the streets making sure the society is running smoothly. When a police officer sees something out of the ordinary, it is their duty to put a stop to it. However, if there is a situation where a suspect draws a firearm of any kind on a police officer, the police officer has to do anything in their power, including discharging their own weapon, to protect the citizens, as well as his own self. The occupation of a police officer can be as simple as writing somebody a ticket for disobeying the law, but it can also be as difficult as making a split second decision to pull his firearm on a criminal. The matter of the fact is that the police officers of the United States show bravery and courage with whatever they do.…
