My Testimony for NYC Mission Trip

Today I will be sharing my testimony of how I met Jesus in my life. I was born in a Christian family, but I was a bad kid when I was in preschool until fourth grade. I used to steal toys from other kids, and punching other kids my age. I kept doing this things over and over again and parents complaining to Senior Pastor that I was making big trouble, parents telling their children that I was a bad kid. In school I was a troublemaker, I would get bad grades, conferences, and reports about my behavior and would not have that much friends. The parents at my church also said to my mom that I was a big troublemaker and went to church for fun they were right cause I was only kid back then.

It was the first day of our medical mission trip. The 13 of us were divided into four group: triage, clinic, pharmacy, and faith. Colin, Laure, and I sat in plastic white lawn chairs, facing the locals who sat on three wooden benches. We had prepared a short, spiritual lesson to bring Jesus’ love to the rural cities of the Dominican Republic. When I welcomed them in their native language, their faces softened.…

I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

Over the last few years I have heard a common concern arise regarding the stress levels of people in our country, and at the onset I initially placed a lot of responsibility on things such as technology, employers, and the demands of society. Yet, as I pondered this issue, and as more news reports and articles populated about people being their own contributor to stress, I started scrutinizing not only my own life, but also observing others. Our culture has seemed to breed the idea that humans are to glorify status, stuff, and schedules, rather than glorify the Creator of all. In the book titled, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (2006), Peter Scazzero discussed the previously held notion of crafting a rule of life, with the hopes that one…

Service is something that is near and dear to my heart, and this trip was no exception. My FYS group and I went to a local non for profit Atlas (Attaining Truth, Love, And Self-control) to do projects they needed done. This organization works with troubled people who need a mentor or a shoulder to lean on. Because they are a non for profit and are very busy, the people on pay roll didn’t have the time to do yard work or extra jobs around the building.…

I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, where I was a church kid and homeschooled, and the oldest of twin sisters. From what I could tell my life was picture perfect, but when I was 10 my parents decided to move us half across the country to New Mexico. My life quickly changed from being homeschooled, to being enrolled in public school for the first time, however a year later I was pulled out. In 2008 I found myself in a new church, looking to fit in, and living life for myself. While I was in the youth group at this church it was considered my refuge.…

Introduction One day my boyfriend and I were sitting on the couch because there is not much to do around the small town of Bellbrook, Ohio. We have already been to all of the museums, parks, aquariums, bowling alleys, and anything else you could imagine around here. We were in need of an adventure so we decided to take one. Our plan was to each pick a city to visit and we would visit each of these two cities for two days each. I picked Paris, France because I took French for five years and we studied the city a lot and I have always wanted to visit.…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…
